We are currently accepting applications for summer students interested in working as a Program assistant – education.
To be eligible for this position, you must meet the participant requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs Agreement with as outlined:
be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
Note: International students are not eligible participants.
What you'll get to do:
- Lead the planning, design, and implementation of engaging summer program activities for newcomer families, including children, youth, and children with disabilities, ensuring programs are inclusive, accessible, and culturally responsive.
Develop diverse programming such as environmental activities (gardening, eco-crafts, sustainability initiatives), outdoor education, arts-based programming, digital literacy, and introductory AI tools.
Provide administrative coordination by preparing program documents, tracking attendance, updating program records, supporting program evaluation, and assisting with communication to families, staff, and community partners.
Support FIS program in strengthening community connections to enhance collaboration and identify free or low-cost activities and resources for newcomer children and youth.
What you need to know/have:
Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a post-secondary program in Career Development, Social Services, Education, or a related field.- Ability to engage children and youth in learning and skill-building activities
- Strong organizational skills to support planning and delivery of activities and programs.
- Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate work ethics in alignment with CCS core values.
- Knowledge and understanding of language barriers and cultural challenges faced by newcomer individuals in vulnerable communities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and community members.
- Awareness of language barriers and cultural challenges faced by newcomers.
- Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal; proficiency in Pashto, Dari, Farsi, Arabic, Bengali is an asset.
- Proficiency with digital tools and platforms (e.g., Canva, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, social media).
Location: Toronto, ON (3227 Eglinton Ave East, Scarborough, Unit 135, ON M1J 3M5)
Hours: 35 per week, occasional weekends and evenings may be required.
Compensation: $17.60 per hour
