About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a 79-year-old woman living independently in a bungalow in the Pine Ridge community in Gravenhurst. She has experienced significant mobility challenges following a traumatic fall 18 months ago that resulted in extended hospitalization and rehabilitation. She recently broke her hip and is in her third week of hospital recovery. She uses a walker and has lost considerable muscle mass, making daily activities challenging. Cognitively, she is fully capable and manages her own ostomy care and medications independently. She values her independence and prefers to remain in her own home rather than move to a care facility.
Responsibilities:
The caregiver will provide essential support to help maintain safety and comfort at home. Key responsibilities include assisting with bathing and personal care, preparing nutritious meals, light housekeeping tasks such as kitchen cleaning, laundry, linen changes, unloading the dishwasher, and general tidying. The caregiver should help with grocery shopping and occasional errands. The client does not require medication management or ostomy care assistance, as she handles these independently. The focus is on mobility support, meal preparation, maintaining a clean and safe living environment, and providing companionship.
What We're Looking For:
We need a reliable, consistent caregiver who takes initiative and has strong PSW-level skills and experience. The ideal candidate is patient, respectful of the client's independence, and comfortable working with someone using a walker. Experience with mobility assistance and personal care is essential. The caregiver should be proactive in identifying needs and communicating clearly with family members. English-speaking is required. A valid driver's license is helpful for occasional errands. This is an opportunity to build a long-term, trusting relationship with a client who values consistency and quality care.
Schedule:
Initially, we are looking for weekend support—Saturday and Sunday mornings, starting around 9:00 or 10:00 AM. Each visit should be 2-3 hours. As government-supported PSW hours are reduced (currently 5 days per week, weekdays only), we anticipate increasing to additional weekday visits. Flexibility and availability to grow with the client's changing needs are important. This is a long-term position with potential for expanded hours.
