We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and dedicated Art Instructor to teach drawing and visual arts to students aged 3–16. The ideal candidate is passionate about nurturing young artists, possesses strong technical art skills, and can inspire students to develop creativity, confidence, and artistic expression. In addition to regular academic-year classes, the instructor will also play a key role in delivering engaging art programs during our summer camps and seasonal enrichment programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging drawing and visual arts lessons for students aged 3–16.
- Teach foundational and advanced techniques including sketching, shading, perspective, composition, color theory, and mixed media.
- Design structured, age-appropriate lesson plans tailored to students’ abilities, interests, and creative goals.
- Guide students in developing artistic skills, creativity, critical thinking, and visual expression.
- Teach a variety of artistic mediums including pencil, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, and mixed media.
- Prepare students for art exhibitions, portfolio development, competitions, assessments, or entrance requirements when applicable.
- Create a positive, organized, and inspiring classroom environment that encourages creativity and exploration.
- Monitor student progress and provide constructive, individualized feedback.
- Maintain professional communication with parents regarding student development and achievements.
- Assist with school exhibitions, showcases, open houses, and special events.
Summer Camp Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging visual arts and drawing activities as part of the school's summer camp and seasonal camp programs.
- Develop creative, theme-based art projects and workshops suitable for various age groups.
- Foster a fun, safe, and inclusive learning environment during camp sessions.
- Lead group activities that encourage collaboration, imagination, and artistic exploration.
- Supervise students during camp activities and ensure their safety and well-being.
- Support camp exhibitions, performances, showcases, and end-of-session presentations.
- Collaborate with other instructors to create interdisciplinary camp experiences when appropriate.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Art Education, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience teaching drawing and visual arts to children and teenagers.
- Strong foundation in traditional drawing techniques and art fundamentals.
- Ability to teach multiple artistic mediums and adapt instruction to different age groups and skill levels.
- Excellent classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Patient, creative, enthusiastic, and passionate about art education.
- Strong understanding of child development and differentiated instruction.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students while maintaining a structured learning environment.
- Reliable, responsible, and punctual.
Preferred Assets
- Experience preparing students for art portfolios, competitions, exhibitions, or specialized arts programs.
- Background in both traditional and contemporary art practices.
- Ability to teach digital art, graphic design, illustration, animation, or related creative disciplines.
- Previous experience teaching in summer camps, enrichment programs, after-school programs, or extracurricular settings.
- Experience organizing student exhibitions, showcases, and community art events.
- Ability to develop innovative, project-based learning experiences.
- Warm, encouraging, and child-centered teaching style.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
Pay: $17.20-$35.00 per hour
