Brian Kurtz Trucking is a family owned business operating for 45 years in the Guelph area. We service Canada and the United States specializing in refrigerated freight and the transportation of dangerous good with over 60 trucks. We are looking for a hard working experienced individual to join our Safety team as Safety & Compliance Coordinator. This position is part of a team of two.
Job Description:
Safety & Compliance :
- Communicate safety data and regulations to managers and staff;
- Identify, monitor and ensure compliance with various state, provincial and federal regulators (DOT, MTO, SMS, FMCSA);
- Oversee employees’ logs to keep Kurtz compliant with all regulatory bodies;
- Train all driver personnel on Electronic Logs and satellite communication;
- Investigate collision and property damage claims in conjunction with Integrated Insurance;
- Report accidents to appropriate regulatory agency;
- Freight claims processing and settlement;
- Insurance renewal;
- Supervise activities to protect the health and safety of employees and the company.
- Conduct training of employees on the Transportation of Dangerous Good (TDG) as required
- Coordinate and report as necessary any incidents or accidents in regards to hazardous spills
- Provide guidance to employees as needed in TDG regulations and requirements.
- 24/7 availability/on call for accident reporting, investigation and driver concerns
- Administer and maintain FAST, C-TPAT, PIP & Smartway programs.
- Conduct C-TPAT & PIP Training.
- Oversee Drug & Alcohol Program through DriverCheck
- Conduct random drug and alcohol screens
- Implementation of new programs to the BKT safety vision
- Ensure safety and workplace standards are maintained through the JHSC.
Human Resources : This part of the position is done in conjunction with another HR staff and your position relates mostly to Drivers and not all staff of BKT.
- Process all WSIB claims & develop safe Return to Work plans as necessary.
- Monitor WSIB Neer Firm Statements.
- Update, maintain and review HR policies, procedures and practices to remain current and are in compliance with the Employment Standard Act.
- Administer HR policies to workforce.
- Recruiting to included advertisement, screening, interviewing of all new hires.
- Maintain social media presence through Facebook and Instagram.
- Conduct new hire orientation for drivers.
Qualifications:
- Knowledgeable and experienced in all aspects of transportation, maintenance, and administration.
- Familiarity with relevant current and pending government regulations (MTO/DOT/FMCSA/SMS/OSHA)
- Ability to work without direct supervision in an independent atmosphere.
- 5 years experience in the transportation industry in Safety & Compliance.
- Certified Drug and Alcohol Screening Technician.
- Experience with C-TPAT, PIP and the FAST program in the transportation industry.
- Experience in managing WSIB files including incident management and conducting safe return to work programs.
- Must have very strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with strong computer skills in MS OFFICE Word and Excel.
- Human Resource experience in interviewing, hiring and orientating.
- Proven experience with Joint Health & Safety Committees.
- Good understanding of federal regulations Labour Code Part II.
