The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a regulated health care professional member who collaborates and participates in the provision of health services in the Family Medicine clinics to individuals, families, groups and communities, throughout their life span. The LPN works within a multi-disciplinary team delivering patient and family centred care within the primary care setting, with experience in rooming patients, performing testing (vision, glucose, pregnancy), assisting physicians, patient triaging (in person & phone call), patient follow-up and patient teaching, The LPN provides holistic nursing care considering the whole person, the environment and the concepts of health promotion, illness prevention, health maintenance, restoration and protection. (CLPNA, Standards of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses in Canada, 2013). Utilizing the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making to provide care the LPN works within his/her scope of practice. The LPN is responsible and accountable to the public for his/her own practice, according to the standards defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) Standards of Practice. In addition, the LPN maintains competent practice and provides care according to the Licensed Practical Nurses Professional Regulation.
Description:

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience working in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR), specifically Med Access. Knowledge of the Patient Medical Home. Experience working with the Alberta Screening & Prevention Maneuvers. Knowledge and understanding of the provincial initiative of Community Information Integration & Central Patient Attachment Registry (CII/CPAR). Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
