This full-time contract position runs from August 24, 2026, through June 24, 2027, offering the opportunity to spend the school year creating meaningful learning experiences for children aged 18 months to 3 years. As a Toddler Teacher, you will play an important role in helping children build confidence, develop independence, and discover the world around them through play, exploration, and nurturing relationships.

Position Summary:
The Toddler Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that supports the developmental needs of children aged 18 months to 3 years. Through responsive caregiving, intentional planning, and meaningful interactions, the Toddler Teacher fosters children's social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development. Working collaboratively with colleagues and families, the Toddler Teacher implements a play-based curriculum that encourages exploration, independence, and a strong sense of belonging.
Responsibilities:
Program Planning and Implementation
- Plan, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate learning experiences that reflect children's interests, strengths, and emerging skills.
- Create inviting learning environments that encourage exploration, creativity, problem-solving, and independence.
- Observe, document, and assess children's learning and development to inform program planning and individual support strategies.
- Completing programming on Lillio weekly and sending out daily parent correspondence through Lillio.
- Adapt activities and environments to meet the diverse needs of all children and promote inclusive participation.
- Support children's transitions throughout the day, including arrival, meals, rest periods, outdoor play, and departures.
Child Development and Care
- Build responsive, respectful relationships with children through positive interactions and consistent caregiving practices.
- Support children's emotional regulation, social development, communication skills, and emerging independence.
- Provide active supervision at all times to ensure children's safety and well-being.
- Assist children with daily routines, including toileting, handwashing, dressing, eating, and rest times.
- Implement positive behaviour guidance strategies that promote self-regulation, empathy, and problem-solving.
Family Communication and Partnerships
- Develop positive and professional relationships with families based on trust, respect, and open communication.
- Share information regarding children's experiences, progress, and daily activities through established communication methods.
- Collaborate with families to support children's individual needs and developmental goals.
- Participate in family events, conferences, and meetings as required.
Classroom and Environment Management
- Maintain clean, organized, and engaging learning environments that meet licensing, health, and safety requirements.
- Prepare and organize classroom materials, documentation displays, and learning resources.
- Conduct daily health and safety checks and ensure classroom equipment and materials are in good condition.
- Participate in classroom setup, seasonal changes, and environmental enhancements that support children's learning.
Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with educators, support staff, and leadership to maintain a positive and effective program environment.
- Participate in team meetings, reflective practice discussions, and program planning sessions.
- Support colleagues during transitions, breaks, and staffing adjustments as needed.
- Contribute to a culture of professionalism, continuous improvement, and mutual respect.

Experience & Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate the following skills and experience.
Education:
- Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or equivalent recognized qualification.
- Registration and membership in good standing with the applicable regulatory college (where required).
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification.
- Additional training in infant/toddler development, inclusion, behaviour guidance, or related areas is an asset.
Required or Strongly Preferred
- Experience working with toddlers in a licensed childcare, early learning, or preschool setting.
- Strong understanding of child development and play-based learning practices.
- Experience planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and learning experiences.
- Ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
- Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team.
Work Conditions / Physical Requirements
- Lifting and carrying children and materials up to 40 lbs.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, sitting on the floor, and standing for extended periods.
- Active participation in indoor and outdoor play in all seasons and weather conditions.
- Ability to provide active supervision and respond quickly to children's needs.
- Frequent movement throughout the classroom and outdoor learning environments.
Pay: $19.00-$24.00 per hour
