Job Description:
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for delivering a strategic and thoughtful approach to volunteer engagement, recruitment, and program coordination that reflects the values and mission of the organization. This role builds meaningful relationships with volunteers and community members through inclusive, supportive practices, while leading the development and delivery of accessible, engaging volunteer programs. The Volunteer Coordinator oversees the full volunteer lifecycle – including recruitment, training, and retention – and supports events and initiatives that strengthen community connections, enhance service delivery, and ensure volunteers feel prepared, valued, and recognized.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement volunteer recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies
- Coordinate the full volunteer lifecycle, including screening, onboarding, training, and offboarding
- Match volunteers to roles based on skills, interests, and organizational needs
- Provide ongoing support, supervision, and communication to ensure a positive experience
- Build strong relationships with volunteers to foster engagement and long-term commitment
- Create and deliver volunteer recognition and appreciation initiatives
- Address volunteer concerns with professionalism and care
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment for all volunteers
- Coordinate volunteer involvement in events, programs, and community initiatives
- Support the planning and execution of events and outreach activities
- Represent the organization at community events, volunteer fairs, and engagement opportunities
- Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, schools, and organizations
- Coordinate group volunteer opportunities and collaborative initiatives
- Maintain accurate volunteer records and track engagement and program outcomes
- Support organizational planning, reporting, and strategy related to volunteer programming
Required Qualifications:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Services, Social Work, Community Development, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2-3 years of experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, or program support
- Demonstrated experience recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers
- Strong understanding of equity, diversity, inclusion, and trauma-informed practices
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with databases or CRM systems
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience planning and coordinating events or community initiatives
- Knowledge of community resources and services
- Experience working in a nonprofit or social services environment
- Familiarity with volunteer management systems or CRM platforms
- Bilingualism (English/French)
