Job Description
Work Activities and Responsibilities
- Operate and drive tandem dump trucks and tridem trailers, weighing up to 44,000 kg
transport aggregates and material to destinations to local urban areas and neighboring
communities.
- Operate snowplows or trucks fitted with plow blades to remove snow from streets, highways,
parking lots and forestry
- Operate weigh scale and basic computer for printing weigh tickets
- Able to learn how to self load and become knowledgeable of the different aggregates
- Oversee all aspects of vehicles, such as condition of equipment, loading and unloading, and
safety and security of cargo and perform basic road side repairs.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspection of vehicle systems and equipment such as but not
limited to tires, lights and brakes
- Healthy and fit enough to under take tasks described
- Record cargo information, distance traveled, fuel consumption and other info in log book
- Communicate with dispatcher and other drivers using citizens band fm radio, cell phone
- Communicate with other contractors and foremen in a positive and professional manner.
- Ensure truck is fully fueled prior to job and at the end of day
- Ensure all weigh-slips/bills are signed and COD is collected prior to release of material(s)
- Conduct daily pre and post-operational checks on equipment and clean, lubricate, refill
equipment and report any malfunctions to dispatch
- Performs preventative maintenance such as general equipment cleaning, checking fluid
levels,lubrication, maintaining tires pressures, and changing implements or attachments.
- Be aware and obey all rules, regulations and laws provided by, but not limited to ICBC,
Ministry of Highways, Ministry of British Columbia and the Canadian Federal Government.
- Ensure all safety equipment set-forth by the Workers Compensation Board of Canada is
available and ready to wear/used at all times.
- Drive responsibly and ensure all loads are secure and tarped
- Hand in all fuel receipts, reports and safety checklists at the end of each shift
- Keep interior of machine clean and free of food and/or beverages
- Maintain a valid drivers license and report all driving violations and citations
Snow Plowing Responsibilities
- Operate trucks equipped with road sanding, snow plow and other similar apparatus
- Replace cutting edges when necessary
- Check and tighten cutting edges every shift
- Hook up sander to truck, including hoses and cables
- Conducts pre and post-operational checks on equipment and clean, lubricate and refill
equipment
- Check, lubricate, refuel and clean equipment and report any malfunctions to dispatch
Required Knowledge
- How to use cell phone for Google Maps and entering time records
- Local area including knowledge of how to describe current location.
- Servicing and repairing trucks

Experience:
- Commercial driving: 3 years (preferred)
