Location: 250 Summerlea Rd, Brampton, L6T 3V6
Shift: Saturday to Wednesday from 8:00 to 4:30pm
Reporting to the Supervisor or Senior Supervisor, Facilities & Maintenance, the Maintenance Associate is accountable for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing all building systems, production equipment, and automation to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. This includes performing preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as conveyors, material handling equipment, dock systems, racking, and other facility infrastructure.
The role is responsible for ensuring all equipment and systems operate safely and effectively in compliance with applicable safety regulations, food safety standards, and company operating procedures. The Maintenance Associate also supports facility inspections, equipment installations and upgrades, and responds to equipment failures to minimize downtime and maintain operational continuity.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all production and manufacturing equipment and automation meet safety, food safety, and all other applicable regulatory standards.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventive and/or predictive maintenance checklists.
- Maintain, repair, and calibrate general building systems and equipment, including racking, dock doors, waste management systems, conveyors, automation, case sealers, and material-handling equipment, using relevant job plans, procedures, and manuals.
- Maintain and repair distribution center racking, walkies, power trucks, dock doors, and perform general facility repairs to ensure a clean and efficient operation.
- Perform basic electrical maintenance and repairs, including troubleshooting motors, control panels, wiring, lighting, and low-voltage systems in accordance with electrical safety codes and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Perform basic plumbing maintenance and repairs, including drains, water lines, pumps, valves, and fixtures throughout the facility.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions and determine appropriate corrective actions, escalating complex issues as needed.
- Manage maintenance tasks and work orders using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Google Sheets.
- Update maintenance logs and ensure quality standards are maintained.
- Perform regular facility inspections to ensure fire extinguishers, emergency exits, emergency lighting, and other safety features meet or exceed regulatory requirements; perform repairs as required.
- Support equipment upgrades, replacements, overhauls, and installation projects.
- Assisting and overseeing contractors on site for related projects or tasks.
- Train new hires according to the maintenance training plan for machine operation.
- Work in compliance with applicable Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) legislation, regulations, and company policies.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE), safety equipment, and protective clothing as directed by the employer, and promptly report workplace hazards or unsafe conditions to the supervisor or employer.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Post-secondary diploma or certificate in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Millwright, Mechatronics, Industrial Electrician, Electromechanical Technician, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience is required.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in a maintenance or industrial maintenance role is required.
- Ability to safely push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform frequent bending, twisting, reaching, and walking throughout the shift.
- Proficiency in using basic hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Ability to work in a deadline-driven manufacturing or production environment.
- Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and rotating or varying shifts, as required.
- Willingness and ability to work in a refrigerated environment (0°C to 4°C) and occasionally at-25 °C.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace (Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Sheets), and video conferencing platforms such as Google Meet.
