Responsibilities:
- Recreation Aides are Culture Champions! By creating relationships with residents and employees, responding to questions, requests, and challenges in a timely and positive manner, the Recreation Aide builds a culture of resident and staff engagement.
- Under supervision of the Director of Recreation, the Recreation Aide Implements programming with a focus on Therapeutic Recreation, being mindful of resident requests and needs.
- Complete documentation as required.
- Will attend planning meetings to share ideas.
- Will provide 1 on 1 recreation opportunities for residents who cannot or will not participate in group activity.
- Will work together with others and display a positive attitude and team spirit.
- Comfortable working with older adults and individuals with dementia and other cognitive or medical diagnosis.
- Should be comfortable leading group activities including exercises classes, music, etc.
- Be able to perform necessary tasks that require lifting, bending, and stooping.
- Recruit and develop volunteers.
Required knowledge and skills:
- Post-secondary education in Therapeutic Recreation or related field is an asset.
- Dementia Passport or equivalent education recommended.
- 3-5 years' experience in a congregate living environment an asset.
- Be organized and practice good time management skills.
- Be knowledgeable about program delivery and the various domains of health.
- Have strong written and oral communication skills.
- Be comfortable communicating in one-on-one and large group settings.
- Must hold a valid First Aid and CPR certificate.
- Provide a current Certificate of conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Provide a medical, 2 Step TB screen, and immunization record required for employment.
- Hold a valid driver's license considered an asset.
- Experiencing driving and transporting clients/residents is considered an asset.
