Join our dynamic team as the Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Manager and play a key role in creating a safer, healthier, and more sustainable workplace. Reporting to our Vice President of Operations, you will be a vital member of our corporate management team, leading the charge in shaping and overseeing our Safety, Health, and Environmental programs across Canada and the U.S. This role is based in Cornwall, Ontario, and offers the chance to make a significant impact in a supportive and collaborative environment.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Lead our commitment to safety and sustainability by ensuring compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental legislation at two Canadian business locations (main location in Cornwall, Ontario and another in Lachine, Quebec)
- Stay ahead of the curve by monitoring regulatory changes and advising on any impacts to operations
- Lead and support industrial hygiene monitoring, hazard communication, radiation safety, incident investigations and general industrial hygiene procedures and programs
- Develop safety programs to minimize injury rates
- Act as a management representative at the Joint Health and Safety Committee
- Prepare and submit quarterly and annual environmental reports to NPRI, MOE, MISA and other regulatory bodies
- Manage environmental controls (MISA, CEPA) and perform audits
- Report on safety, environment and waste compliance performance
- Manage and report the process of weekly water samples and submit them for analysis
- Ensure compliance with all occupational health and safety rules to support personal and team safety
- Provide support to one U.S. business location in implementing safety programs
- Refine, develop and maintain organizational health and safety policies
- Support implementation of Safety, Health and Environmental initiatives
- Assist with communications and training for management, staff and Joint Health and Safety Committees on compliance requirements including WHMIS, First Aid, Fire Plan, Fall Arrest and Lockout Tagout
- Provide regular reporting and recommendations to senior management on health and safety performance
- Liaise with external agencies including MOL, WSIB, OSHA and HSE
- Coordinate corporate facility audits and establish audit standards
- Review incident trend data to identify risk areas and implement corrective action plans
- Coach and mentor supervisors and staff on SHE best practices and programs
- Manage all WSIB claims including leading appeal hearings
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in Occupational Health and Safety
- CRSP and/or CHSC designation
- Strong knowledge of Canadian health and safety legislation and programs
- Knowledge of U.S. health and safety legislation is an asset
- 7 to 10 years of leadership experience in Health and Safety, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Strong communication, facilitation and training skills
- Analytical and strategic thinking skills to design and implement SHE programs
- Proven ability to drive improvements in SHE programs
- WSIB claims management experience is an asset
