16 Lumber is excited to announce the opening of our new storefront in Russell, MB, and we are seeking a dedicated Salesperson/Estimator to join our growing team. As a key player in our operations, you will work closely with contractors and homeowners to provide exceptional service and support throughout their projects.
The Opportunity
In this detail-oriented role, you will engage with clients from the initial plan review to material delivery, ensuring a seamless experience. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment where customer service, technical expertise, and accuracy are paramount.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and project specifications.
- Conduct detailed material takeoffs for residential and light commercial projects.
- Prepare accurate and competitive project estimates across various product categories, including framing, roofing, siding, insulation, drywall, and finishing products.
- Identify potential issues or discrepancies in project plans.
- Ensure all estimates are compliant with company policies and building code requirements.
- Coordinate material staging and delivery timelines with clients and internal teams.
- Research product specifications, pricing, and availability to support accurate estimates.
- Assist contractors and retail customers in selecting products and addressing project needs.
- Manage special orders, including quoting, deposits, and follow-ups.
- Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with customers and contractors.
- Address customer inquiries and issues professionally and promptly.
- Provide hands-on support on the retail floor as needed.
- Accurately process transactions through POS systems.
- Assist with inventory management, displays, and order staging.
- Collaborate with yard staff, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure smooth operations.
- Participate in product training and team initiatives.
Ideal Profile
- Experience in estimating, contractor sales, or building materials supply is preferred.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail and confidence in working with numbers and specifications.
- Knowledge of building materials across multiple categories or a strong willingness to learn.
- Customer-focused with excellent communication skills.
- Organized, capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Proficient in using estimating software, POS systems, and general computer tools.
- A team player with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
This position is particularly well-suited for individuals with a background in contracting, inside sales, or estimating who enjoy being hands-on with projects while cultivating long-term customer relationships.
