Summary
As a Process-Quality Engineer, you will be the backbone of efficient, high-quality production. You’ll develop and maintain process documentation, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure products are made reliably, safely, and cost-effectively. You’ll work cross-functionally to support new product introductions, troubleshoot process issues, and implement lean manufacturing strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and document process routings and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for new and existing products
- Collaborate with design and production teams to ensure feasibility, manufacturability, mistake-proofing and accuracy of job setups and product assemblies
- Configure and maintain ERP system entries for parts, products and processes
- Analyze production cycles and optimize takt time based on customer demand and line balancing
- Monitor process efficiency, identify bottlenecks, and recommend throughput improvements for SMT, AOI, Wave Soldering, Coating and Final Assembly
- Lead creation and updates of Process Flows, Control Plans and PFMEAs (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to establish manufacturing processes and identify risks and mitigation plans
- Facilitate cross-functional reviews for risk assessment and design-for-manufacturing initiatives
- Conduct routine audits for ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) control compliance and particle count environments
- Implement and monitor product contamination and cleanliness control protocols
- Collaborate with quality teams to close process audit gaps and ensure industry-standard practices
- Drive continuous improvement projects using Lean methodologies (Kaizen, 5S, Value Stream Mapping)
- Identify and eliminate waste in manufacturing processes to enhance productivity and cost efficiency
- Train operators and staff on lean principles and improvement techniques
- Investigate process failures, defects, and yield loss through root cause analysis (Fishbone, 5 Whys, etc.)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop corrective action plans and verify effectiveness
- Define metrics and systems to measure First Pass Yield (FPY) , Poor Quality Cost and Scrap across production lines
- Communicate results and improvement strategies to stakeholders
- Evaluate manufacturing processes for cost, quality, and efficiency
- Implement automation, layout improvements, and process standardization initiatives
- Support new equipment specification, installation, and validation
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by validating manufacturing readiness and production capability including PPAP and FAI
- Collaborate with design and R&D teams to ensure smooth transition from prototype to mass production
- Maintain up-to-date documentation including work instructions, and training materials
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent
- 3+ years experience in process engineering within electronics manufacturing.
- Proficient in SMT/AOI manufacturing processes and Wave soldering technology, with practical production-floor experience
- Demonstrate leadership skills including the ability to analyze production data, coach, assess, evaluate, train, develop, motivate and empower others.
- Strong knowledge and experience in IPC Standards and Quality Management System (i.e. ISO 9001/13485/16949/14001)
- Experience working in an automotive, aerospace or medical production environment will be considered an asset.
- Proficient in process and quality tools: Control Plan, FMEA, SPC, MSA, CAPA, 8D, DFM/DFX, KPI, OEE, LEAN SIX SIGMA, 5S
- Good computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Suite.
- Manual dexterity and ability to lift heavy objects.
- Ability to read and interpret production documentation, including schematics and Engineering drawings.
