Accounting Manager / Assistant Controller – Valiant Group (Langley, BC)

The Valiant Group—a dynamic commercial equipment leasing, mortgage, real estate, and private equity organization—is seeking an experienced Accountant to oversee financial operations, strengthen internal controls, and support the VP of Finance in driving growth and operational excellence. This role offers broad exposure across multiple business lines and the opportunity to lead a growing accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Oversight
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations across the group of companies, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with internal policies.
- Lead and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance, training, and performance management.
- Support the VP of Finance in developing and maintaining a strong financial control environment.
- Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring complete and accurate financial reporting.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare combined financial statements and internal management reports; ensure adherence to ASPE/US GAAP where applicable.
- Conduct in-depth balance sheet reviews, variance analysis, income statement commentary, and cash flow analysis.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and working papers.
- Coordinate with external auditors, providing required documentation and responding to audit inquiries.
Operational Accounting & Compliance
- Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll, and tax remittance processes.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and filing deadlines (GST/PST, payroll, corporate tax support).
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
Strategic Support & Special Projects
- Work closely with executive leadership on financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting, and scenario analysis.
- Lead or support strategic initiatives, including new business evaluations, system implementations, and process improvements.
- Research financial markets, technologies, and industry trends to support decision-making.
- Prepare dashboards and performance reports for internal stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with operations, lending, real estate, and investment teams to support business performance and accounting accuracy.
- Communicate financial insights and recommendations to management in a clear, actionable manner.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- CPA designation.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or management experience.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting standards;
- Advanced Excel skills; strong experience in financial modeling and data analysis.
- Experience with multi-entity or diversified business structures preferred.

Pay: $90,000.00-$115,000.00 per year
