Registered Early Childhood Educator
Little Blessings Nursery School is an non-for-profit Christian nursery school providing half-day (morning and afternoon) preschool programs in Whitby. We are looking for a creative and energetic staff member who enjoys caring for children in an active team environment to take on the role of Registered Early Childhood Educator in our morning and afternoon nursery school program.

Requirements for the successful candidate include, but are not limited to:
- Possessing the exceptional ability to interact with children in a positive and enthusiastic manner
- Seeking opportunities to deepen connections and increase engagement with parents and children with professionalism, including discussing daily events and children's progress with families
- Experience working closely as a team member with strong interpersonal communication skills in a licensed child care centre
- Planning and implementing a consistent child-centred program in accordance with the Early Learning Framework, including "How Does Learning Happen," the Durham Region Operating Criteria, and the Child Care and Early Years Act
- Completing required documentation of children's development, weekly observations, and monthly goals, and creating a portfolio
- Being flexible and adapting easily to change, with confidence working with others in a demanding environment
- Being able to support and uphold the Christian mission and values of Little Blessings Nursery School
Major Responsibilities
- Participates in the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate programs to enhance children's spiritual, cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. Incorporates learning experiences designed to meet individual and group needs.
- Attends monthly staff meetings.
- Observes children's progress and behaviour, assesses individual and group needs, and in partnership with the Supervisor, identifies extra support needs. Completes developmental portfolios.
- Participates with other staff to ensure the safety and well-being of the children.
- Responds appropriately and professionally to parent/guardian/school staff inquiries regarding children's progress, behaviour, and health. Promotes parent involvement.
- Ensures children in care receive adequate nourishment and that any special dietary requirements are met.
- Diapers children and assists children with washing, dressing, toileting, and eating to support self-help skills.
- Conducts daily health checks of children, records illness, and contacts parents as needed. Administers medications as authorized by a physician and maintains medication records. Administers first aid and completes related incident reports.
- Ensures toys and equipment are maintained in a safe, clean condition and kept in good repair. Sets up the activity area and ensures the physical environment is safe.
- Documents attendance, records illness on health forms, and completes accident reports.
- Takes work direction from the Supervisor as necessary and assigns tasks to other teachers and students.
- Ensures the classroom meets the requirements of the Durham Region Operating Criteria.
Qualifications
- Early Childhood Education diploma or degree
- Must be registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Minimum 6 months of experience working with young children; toddler/preschool experience is an asset
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with members, staff, volunteers, and parents/caregivers
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Valid Standard First Aid certification including infant and child CPR-C, as required under the Child Care and Early Years Act
- Up-to-date immunization records and health assessment, with a 2-step TB test completed within the past year
- A Vulnerable Sector Police Check dated within the last 6 months
Compensation
Starting at $25.86/hour, inclusive of the CWELCC wage enhancement and annual increase funding.

Working Hours
September to June (10-month contract). 2 weeks unpaid at Christmas Break, 1 week unpaid at March Break. Expected working hours allows for 1 hour work from home for program planning

Monday & Friday: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
Tuesday to Thursday: 8:00 am – 4:15 pm
