We are currently seeking a Environment Monitor for a contract opportunity at a remote mining site in the Northwest Territories. This is a fly-in, fly-out position operating on a 2-weeks-on, 2-weeks-off rotation. Camp accommodations, meals, and flights are provided. Pay rate for this position is $42 per hours + OT after 8 hrs a day.
The Environmental Monitor will assist with environmental monitoring, data collection, sampling, inspections, and data entry to support regulatory compliance and reclamation activities. Candidates should have previous experience in environmental monitoring, reclamation, mine closure, or a related field, along with strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety. This term position is expected to run until the end of September, with the potential for extension based on operational requirements.

This role provides technical support and coaching to assist the department and the company to strive to achieve their goals of "ZERO HARM"
Main Accountabilities:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Environment, the Environment Monitor will be an integral part of the Health, Safety, and Environment Department:
- Participate in the collection of environmental samples (such as water, sediment, dust/air, aquatic and terrestrial wildlife, and vegetation), take accurate field and laboratory measurements, and enter data
- Participate in regional and local scale wildlife monitoring programs (including grizzly bears, wolverines, and caribou)
- Maintain and calibrate field and laboratory monitoring equipment
- Conduct in-house laboratory tests (such as TSS, turbidity, Eh, DO, and pH)
- Complete and document formal site compliance inspections weekly and informal inspections daily
- Fly in helicopters and operate motor vehicles, motorboats, and use other powered field sampling equipment
- Assist with closure projects
Provide entry-level support for geotechnical monitoring and site surveying as required

Main Qualifications:
- Official training or education in a Science/Environment program OR significant experience operating snowmobiles and boats, as well as an active possession and acquisition license (PAL)
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- A class 5 driver’s license
- A degree or diploma in an environmental or related field
- An understanding of the importance of collecting environmental data to comply with permit stipulations.
- Comfortable working outdoors in extreme and remote environments for extended periods of time.
- Self-motivated with outstanding organizational, participative and communication skills.
- Able to lift 30lbs unassisted
- Previous work placement experience with exposure to environmental field monitoring is desirable and experience working at remote sites
- Previous work experience or education related to assessing vegetation or water quality
- Operational experience with motorboats and snowmobiles
- Proficient with MS Word and Excel
Firearms possession and acquisition license (PAL) and pleasure craft operator certificate (PCOC)
