Please note that this is a Canada Summer Jobs Role. The contract is 8 weeks, 35 hours per week for a total of 280 hours.
The Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie is committed to providing quality programs and services to women in Simcoe County who are survivors of gender-based abuse and violence. We recognize the extent of violence against women globally and in our community and advocate for systemic changes that will promote gender-equity and help protect the rights of women and children.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children from infant to 16 years
- Experience planning and implementing recreation activities for children of all ages
- Sensitivity to children who have witnessed or had exposure to abuse
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, provide, and supervise safe, structured, age appropriate activities for child residents including crafts, indoor and outdoor play, according to COVID protocols in place.
- Assist children in adjusting to and understanding the rules of the shelter and its routines.
- Assist Front-Line staff with providing support to women in the shelter, answering phones, assisting with intakes, discharges, documentation, goal setting, avocation, and women's empowerment.
- Willing to work flexible hours, including Saturdays and some evenings
- Prepare healthy snacks for children.
- Clean, disinfect and organize play areas and office areas.
- Some computer skills and photocopying may be required.
- Observe and comply with all health and safety procedures as outlined in the Service Delivery Procedures Manual.
- Maintain confidentiality of the client, the organization and its staff at all times.
- Experience working with children/youth in any setting an asset.
Hiring Requirements:
All applicants must be a student legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid Social Insurance Number.
- Current Criminal Police Check/Vulnerable Sector Check
- Standard First Aid/CPR
- Valid driver’s license
