Grove Electric is a growing, locally owned electrical contractor based in the Lower Mainland. We work across commercial, industrial, multi-tenant, and restoration projects — and we're investing heavily in our commercial division. This is a new seat on our team, and the right person will have a real opportunity to shape how we estimate, bid, and win work going forward.
About the Role
We're hiring our first dedicated Commercial Electrical Estimator. You'll own the bid process from takeoff to submission — reviewing tender documents, doing quantity takeoffs, sourcing material pricing, building labour units, and putting together competitive, accurate bids that win profitable work. You'll work directly with the owner and project managers, and your input will shape which jobs we chase.
What You'll Be Doing
- Reviewing bid invitations, drawings, specifications, and addenda for commercial projects
- Performing accurate quantity takeoffs (manual and/or software-based)
- Sourcing and negotiating material pricing with suppliers and distributors
- Building labour estimates using NECA units or similar industry standards
- Preparing and submitting competitive, well-organized bid packages
- Reviewing scope with subtrades, suppliers, and GCs during the tender period
- Maintaining a bid log and follow-up cadence with general contractors
- Handing off awarded projects cleanly to the PM and field team
- Conducting site walks and pre-bid meetings as needed
- Contributing to our growing tender outreach and bid list across the Lower Mainland
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of estimating experience with a commercial electrical contractor (or strong field experience + ticket transitioning into the office)
- Solid understanding of commercial electrical scope: distribution, lighting, branch wiring, fire alarm, low voltage, life safety
- Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code
- Ability to read and interpret commercial drawings, specs, and addenda
- Comfortable with estimating software (Accubid, ConEst, McCormick, Trimble, or similar) — or strong spreadsheet/manual takeoff skills
- Excellent attention to detail — small numbers add up to big losses in this seat
- Self-starter who can manage multiple bids and deadlines at once
- BC Journeyman / Red Seal or FSR ticket is an asset
- Experience with Jobber (our quoting/job management platform) is an asset, not required
