Sturgeon County is looking for individuals interested in providing back up and casual assistance as a Bus Driver on an "as needed" basis. This position will operate a multi passenger van or bus for County resident seniors (65+) and children aged 3-17 for FCSS programming, and for Council, staff, and participants for corporate initiatives.
This is a safety sensitive position.
This competition will remain open until the right candidates are found.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Van or Bus Services for Residents Requiring Accessible Transit (70%)
- Maintains a clean and professional appearance and demeanor while ensuring the van or bus is operated in a safe, courteous, and reliable manner throughout the contracted service area within a daily assigned time schedule.
- Provides helpful, supportive, and courteous service to riders, drawing on knowledge of all aspects of the bus service.
- Provides physical assistance to passengers as required, handles and assists clients using wheelchairs, walkers and other ambulatory aids.
- Participates in programs and outings with passengers when required, providing active support as directed.
- Provides post-trip reports to the FCSS office immediately following each trip.
- Maintains appropriate and accurate records as required.
- Reports any difficult situations to the supervisor and makes recommendations regarding solutions.
Vehicle Maintenance (20%)
- Completes and documents pre and post trip inspections and submits for filing purposes.
- Reports on any mechanical irregularities to Fleet staff using the pre and post trip report and advises the Supervisor, Community Development of any issues.
- Keeps the van or bus clean and tidy in appearance.
- Ensures van or bus is filled with gas after each trip.
Other Related Duties (10%)
- Adheres to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE
- Class 4 Alberta Drivers License, with an acceptable Drivers Abstract.
- A clear Criminal Record (Vulnerable Sector) is required (must be renewed every three years).
- Driver training, including defensive driving and certification that meets the National Safety Code requirements.
- First aid training and CPR are an asset.
- Experience in transporting individuals requiring accessible transit services.
- Class 4 Alberta Drivers License, with an acceptable Drivers Abstract.
- A clear Criminal Record (Vulnerable Sector) is required (must be renewed every three years).
- Driver training, including defensive driving and certification that meets the National Safety Code requirements.
- First aid training and CPR are an asset.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently with no supervision.
- Punctuality, self-motivation, open communication, and ability to take direction well and respond to public inquiries in a calm and friendly manner.
- Excellent oral communication skills.
- Evening and weekend hours will be required.
