About the Position
We are looking for an organized, dependable, and hands-on Food Safety & Operations Supervisor to support our Montréal food-service and catering operation.
This position is responsible for ensuring that food-safety procedures are followed, products are properly labelled and stored, inventory is controlled, orders are placed and received correctly, and employees are properly trained.
The successful candidate must be comfortable supervising employees while also stepping in and helping with daily operations when required.
Primary ResponsibilitiesFood Safety and Sanitation
- Ensure employees consistently follow cleaning, sanitation, and personal-hygiene procedures.
- Monitor food preparation, cooking, cooling, reheating, and storage procedures.
- Verify that refrigerators and freezers are operating at the correct temperatures.
- Complete and maintain temperature, sanitation, cooling, and receiving logs.
- Identify food-safety concerns and take immediate corrective action.
- Ensure products are stored according to food-safety requirements and company procedures.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and inspection-ready workplace.
Product Labelling and Compliance
- Oversee the labelling of all prepared and pre-packaged products.
- Verify production dates, best-before or expiry dates, ingredient lists, and allergen information.
- Ensure labels are accurate, legible, and applied to the correct products.
- Monitor product shelf life and remove expired or improperly labelled products.
- Maintain organized records for pre-packaged products.
- Ensure proper FIFO and FEFO inventory rotation procedures are followed.
Purchasing and Inventory
- Review inventory and place supplier orders on a daily basis.
- Help determine appropriate order quantities based on production requirements and existing stock.
- Receive supplier deliveries and verify quantities, quality, condition, and temperatures where applicable.
- Report shortages, damaged products, substitutions, or incorrect deliveries.
- Ensure received products are labelled and stored promptly in the correct areas.
- Maintain organized refrigerators, freezers, dry-storage areas, and packaging inventory.
- Help reduce food waste, shortages, and unnecessary over-ordering.
Employee Training and Supervision
- Train new employees on customer service, order taking, food handling, and workplace procedures.
- Ensure employees understand and follow established recipes and production procedures.
- Provide clear instructions and follow up to ensure work is completed correctly.
- Coach employees when procedures or service standards are not being followed.
- Communicate operational concerns and recurring problems to management.
- Help create a professional, respectful, and organized work environment.
Operational Support
- Assist the production and customer-service teams during busy periods.
- Help resolve customer-order issues when necessary.
- Assist with catering and food deliveries when there is an overflow.
- Perform other operational duties required to keep daily service running smoothly.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in food service, catering, restaurant operations, food production, or a commercial kitchen.
- Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, temperature control, cooling, storage, and inventory rotation.
- Experience with ordering, receiving, and inventory management.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to supervise employees and enforce procedures consistently.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on environment and helping the team when needed.
- Able to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced workplace.
- Comfortable using email, spreadsheets, ordering systems, and basic computer applications.
- MAPAQ Food Establishment Manager certification is strongly preferred. Candidates without the certification must be willing to obtain it.
- French is required. Functional English is an asset because the position may interact with English-speaking customers and suppliers.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to assist with occasional deliveries.
- Ability to lift and move food products and supplies safely.

The right person for this position is observant, organized, firm, and dependable. You should be comfortable correcting problems, following up with employees, maintaining accurate records, and taking responsibility for food safety and daily operations.
This is not strictly an office or administrative position. The supervisor must be present in the operation, monitor the work being performed, and help the team when necessary.
