The primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Facilitate regular trail and trail feature inspections, audits and assessments, contributing to visitor safety and quality trail experiences
- Collect trail data, help to manage GIS-based trail inventory database, and conduct basic data analysis to help inform ongoing trail planning, design, classification and construction initiatives
- Conduct research on emerging and best practices in trail building and classification, as needed
- Assist with drafting design drawings, details, and specifications to support upcoming trail construction projects
- Conduct occasional trail tread and feature maintenance and trail corridor trimming, using basic hand/power tools, to support our seasonal Trail Crew, as needed
- Be mindful of safety hazards/concerns within the work environment and ensure all concerns are reported to the appropriate individuals
- Assist visitors with inquiries contributing to a welcoming, safe and attractive visitor experience
- Collaborate with Recreation Programs team to support trail-based event setup and to demonstrate our work to relevant WOW Camp streams (e.g., WOW Trail Stewards Camp)
- Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton’s Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals
- Other duties as assigned
- Currently enrolled as a post-secondary student in landscape architecture/design, planning, or related discipline
- Experience working with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Sketch Up, AutoCAD and the Microsoft Office Suite
- A strong interest in trail recreation, trail related planning and maintenance
- Active user of at least one of CH’s core user groups: Hiking, Biking, and Climbing will be considered a strong asset
- Conservation Halton trail knowledge will be considered an asset
- Experience in building/maintaining trail and trail feature construction, through use of basic hand and power tools will be considered an asset
- Experience in outdoor recreation, working outdoors, and/or familiarity with plant/wildlife identification will be considered an asset
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision
- Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills are required
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, on varied terrain
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
- A valid Ontario Drivers Licence, minimum Class “G2”, with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract is required. *Abstract completed by Conservation Halton.
- Successful candidates must provide own CSA approved safety footwear prior to first day of employment *Partial reimbursement provided in accordance with the Safety Workwear policy.
- Starting at $22.38 per hour
- Full-time hours available; hours may vary depending on availability
- The position’s expected start date is June 25, 2026
