POSITION SUMMARY
The Equipment Maintenance Technician is responsible for preventative maintenance and routine repairs of plant equipment and facilities including presses, metal forming and cutting machines, CNC controlled and automated equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. In addition, this position will support production by operating equipment or assisting in quality control processes.
This position will appeal to technicians with strong mechanical backgrounds and experience with equipment maintenance in a manufacturing setting. The ideal candidate will also be comfortable operating machinery and equipment when required to support production. Millwright certification is not required; practical mechanical experience is important.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Equipment Maintenance

Safely repair, inspect, overhaul, install, replace and/or perform preventative maintenance on various types of machinery and equipment including presses, CNC, hydraulic and pneumatic systems;

Install machinery, tools and equipment according to layout plans and procedures;

Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect irregularities and malfunctions.

Troubleshoot mechanical issues with machinery and equipment;

Adjust, repair or replace defective parts as necessary;

Operate machine tools as required for production, overhaul, maintenance or set-up;

Assess breakdowns and identify defective parts, making recommendations for corrective action as necessary;

Complete work orders and report observations.
Continuous Improvement & Reporting
-
Support production continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, quality and efficiency;

Maintain detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation;
-
Maintain spare parts lists and accurate inventory of commonly used parts;

Update ‘as built’ drawings as required;

Support special projects as required.
Safety & Compliance
-
Support initiatives for Pre-Start Health and Safety Review requirements for new and existing equipment;

Ensure safety devices function properly on completion of repairs, modifications and installations;

Maintain a clean and safe work area.
QUALIFICATIONS
-
Minimum 1 year experience in an equipment maintenance role in a manufacturing environment;

Post secondary education in a technical field an asset - Millwright certification not required.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite;

Experience with Rigging and Overhead crane use an asset;

Additional related training, certifications, education and experience an asset.

Read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, diagrams, and specifications;

Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatics and electrical equipment;

Install and remove mechanical components;

Use precision measuring equipment;

Use CAD and related computer software;

Time management skills to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining safety standards;

Effective interpersonal skills to work in a professional and cooperative environment with coworkers and other staff.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Work performed in a manufacturing shop environment;
-
Exposure to elements such as noise/temperature/heights and working in awkward positions;
-
Will require some lifting and operation of hand tools and equipment;
-
Frequent exposure to moving equipment such as forklifts and material handling equipment;
-
May require overtime and weekend work occasionally to meet deadlines;
-
May require shift work.
