Job Summary:
Discovery Family Health is recruiting to add to our high-performance medical administrative team. We are recruiting for a client focused professional with exceptional organizational skills and a great attitude. The Medical Secretary performs administrative and/or clinical tasks to support the work of physicians and other health professionals.
Duties include:
- Maintaining patient confidentiality
- Assisting in effective communication between physicians and patients by responding to incoming telephone calls/voicemails, taking and relaying messages, managing emails, and providing information
- Ensuring office flow by checking in, documenting reason for visit and guiding scheduled patients to exam rooms
- Organizing correspondence by answering phone calls, sorting and distributing mail, scanning paper and electronic records or faxes
- Managing patient referrals by arranging referrals to other health care providers; scheduling appointments for consultations and diagnostic imaging; tracking referrals and following up on consult notes.
- Performing other related duties within the clinic may be assigned
Performance requirements:
- Knowledge of medical terminology and specialized vocabulary as required
- Proficiency in the use of computers including office software, medical record management software (EMR) and email management
- Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical and clinic staff and the public
- The ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written
- Strong grammar and spelling

Educational Requirements:
- 2 years of post-secondary education
This is a contract role with full time weekday and possible weekend hours.
