About the Role
We are seeking a reliable, motivated individual with a strong interest in plant health, horticulture, arboriculture, and ornamental plant care to assist with the maintenance of a high-end residential property throughout the summer season.
This position is specifically intended for a current student or recent graduate in horticulture, agriculture, landscape technology, environmental science, or a related field who is looking to apply their academic knowledge in a hands-on setting.
This is not primarily a landscaping labour position. While some mowing, trimming, hedging, and general property maintenance are required, we are specifically seeking someone with an interest in plant identification, plant health assessment, pest and disease recognition, nutrient deficiencies, irrigation management, and ornamental plant care.
The successful candidate will work with a diverse collection of mature trees, specialty plantings, ornamental shrubs, and gardens, gaining valuable experience in the practical application of horticultural knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain the health of trees, shrubs, flowers, and garden beds
- Identify and report signs of plant stress, pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies
- Perform watering and irrigation system monitoring
- Weed, prune, deadhead, and maintain garden beds
- Assist with planting, mulching, and seasonal landscape improvements
- Perform mowing, string trimming, hedging, and basic tree maintenance
- Maintain a clean, polished appearance throughout the property
- Complete property cleanup and general grounds maintenance
- Perform other outdoor maintenance duties as required
Qualifications
Required
- Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a horticulture, agriculture, landscape technology, environmental science, or related program
- Knowledge of plant identification, plant health care, and horticultural best practices
- Familiarity with plant pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental stress factors
- Strong attention to detail and observational skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Comfortable performing physical outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Reliable transportation
