Established in 1999, Saturn Machine Works Ltd. (Saturn) is the go-to problem-solving machine shop located in Edmonton, Alberta. We are a CNC production machine shop with a new 24,000 sq.ft. facility that allows us to better service our customers in the oil and gas, mining, automotive, industrial, and electrical industries. Saturn is recognized with customers for providing top quality machined parts of all types as well as prototypes and parts with complex geometries.

About the Role
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing operations, production performance, safety, quality, staffing, and financial results. The role involves leading department managers, ensuring efficient workflow across manufacturing processes, maintaining customer satisfaction, and driving continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with company policies and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate core competencies in the following areas:
- Responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, including operational planning, budgeting, cost control, and management of company assets and financial expenditures.
- Delegate responsibilities effectively while maintaining accountability for departmental performance and ensuring company policies, procedures, and job responsibilities are consistently followed.
- Identify and address product, process, and quality issues by implementing corrective actions, documenting concerns, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Oversee purchasing operations to ensure cost-effective procurement, vendor accountability, and timely delivery of materials that support operational needs.
- Monitor and manage financial and operational control systems; including overseeing pricing and quotation processes, reviewing customer orders and project costing, resolving operational issues, maintaining standard pricing structures, and approving divisional expenses and invoices.
- Support business development by identifying new opportunities, evaluating products and services, assisting with strategic planning, and maintaining strong customer relationships.
- Collaborate with HR to support recruitment, employee development, performance management, compensation planning, workforce planning, and employee relations while ensuring compliance with company policies and legislative requirements.
- Ensure legal obligations and regulatory requirements are properly identified, communicated, and managed throughout the organization.
- Oversee maintenance and security programs to ensure company equipment, facilities, assets, and records are properly maintained, protected, and supported by effective safety and security procedures.
- Promote a strong safety culture through safe work practices, hazard awareness, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in workplace health and safety.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will possess the following competencies:
- Minimum 15 years of related industry experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Must have experience managing all aspects of manufacturing and machine shop operations.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects effectively, including planning, coordination, execution, and completion within established timelines and budget.
- Ability to work with employees fairly and equitably while fostering a respectful, collaborative, and inclusive work environment.
- Proficient in computer systems and ERP business software, with the ability to learn and adapt to company-specific programs and technologies.
- Strong computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office 365.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and a focus on accuracy, quality, and consistency.
Required Education:
- Red Seal Machinist certification required.
- Blue Seal certification, Business, or Business Management degree, is considered an asset.
Pay: $40.00-$55.00 per hour
