Role Overview
The Senior Buyer / Merchant is a highly skilled and commercially savvy professional responsible for curating and managing a compelling assortment of products across multiple brands. This role requires excellent taste, a strong eye for trends, and the ability to identify and source new brands that align with the company’s vision and customer expectations. The Senior Buyer collaborates closely with the Buying, Marketing, Purchasing and Merchandising teams to optimize product mix, drive sales, and ensure cohesive brand storytelling across all channels. This is a key role for someone ideally with prior multi-brand retail experience who thrives in a fast-paced, creative environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Source and curate new brands, designers, and product lines that align with the company’s aesthetic and commercial goals.
· Research and identify industry trends, competitor activity, and customer preferences to inform product selection and brand partnerships.
· Identify gaps in the assortment and proactively develop strategies to expand and diversify product offerings.
· Monitor competitive landscape and provide insight on local and national competition
· Manage product assortment across multiple brands, ensuring balance by category, price point, and seasonality.
· Collaborate with merchandising and marketing teams to translate product selections into cohesive campaigns and storytelling.
· Analyze sales data, inventory levels, and trends to optimize assortment and inform future buying decisions.
· Provide vendor performance recaps, sales analysis, and inventory insights to leadership
· Act as a liaison between Buying, Marketing, Pricing and Merchandising teams to ensure timely communication of trends, product launches, and campaigns.
· In partnership with the Pricing Director, manages sell-throughs, markdowns, and exit channels for all products.
· Support seasonal budget planning, forecasting, and financial strategy.
· Mentor and support buy team members, providing guidance on product selection, vendor management, and market analysis.
· Assign and oversee research projects for buy team members, including trend forecasting, competitor analysis, and emerging brand opportunities.
· Build and maintain strategic vendor partnerships, coordinating with vendors on line sheets, image assets, and event collaborations.
· Guide the creation of practical tools, templates, and systems to support the Buying team’s workflow, improve efficiency, and enable better data-driven decisions.
· Maintain organized records of product information, vendor contacts, and collection schedules.
· Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and reporting to support business planning and sales targets.
Skills & Qualifications:
· Proven experience as a Buyer or Senior Buyer in fashion or jewellery retail.
· Exceptional taste and strong aesthetic judgment with the ability to curate compelling assortments across multiple brands.
· Strong analytical skills to interpret sales data, inventory reports, and trend insights to inform buying decisions.
· Strong leadership presence with the ability to mentor and develop high-performing teams.
· Advanced knowledge of retail math, including margin planning, open-to-buy, sell-through, and inventory productivity.
· Strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving abilities
· High attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
· Willingness to travel and work on the retail floor
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
