Job Summary:
The Supply Chain Specialist will be responsible for stabilizing, improving, and optimizing production planning, purchasing execution, forecasting accuracy, inventory management, and supply chain processes for the Edmonton manufacturing operation.
This role will provide functional leadership to the Production Planner and Purchaser while driving improvements in forecasting, inventory optimization, supplier performance, and ERP planning parameters.
The successful candidate will also serve as the Supply Chain lead for key ERP implementation activities, ensuring planning, procurement, inventory management, and master data processes are aligned with future business requirements.
In addition to process improvement initiatives, the role will provide hands-on operational support and serve as the primary backup for both production planning and purchasing functions during employee absences.

Key Objectives
During the contract period, this role will:
- Comprehensive assessment of current planning and procurement processes.
- Improve forecast accuracy and demand planning processes.
- Enhance production scheduling effectiveness and schedule adherence.
- Reduce material shortages and expedite requirements.
- Optimize inventory levels while maintaining service levels.
- Review and revise supplier lead times.
- Review and optimize minimum order quantities (MOQs).
- Review and optimize safety stock settings.
- Improve ERP planning data integrity and planning parameters.
- Establish clear planning and procurement KPIs - Supply chain KPI dashboard.
- Improve communication and alignment between Procurement, Planning, Operations, and Sales.
- Support the successful implementation of the organization's ERP system by ensuring supply chain processes, master data, planning parameters, and user requirements are properly defined, tested, and deployed.
- Transition plan and recommendations for long-term organizational structure.
- Forecast accuracy measurement and improvement plan.
- Inventory optimization recommendations.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures for planning and procurement processes.
Technical Competencies:
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Lead the production planning process to ensure customer demand is balanced against manufacturing capacity.
- Review and improve production scheduling practices.
- Monitor schedule attainment and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
- Work with Operations to manage production constraints and bottlenecks.
- Ensure production plans support inventory and customer service objectives.
- Develop planning tools and reporting to improve visibility across the supply chain.
Procurement & Inventory Management
- Provide functional leadership and direction to site purchasing activities.
- Review purchasing practices and recommend improvements.
- Partner with the Purchaser to:
- Validate supplier lead times.
- Review MOQ requirements.
- Optimize safety stock settings.
- Improve inventory replenishment processes.
- Analyze inventory levels and identify excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory risks.
Forecasting & Demand Planning
- Lead the monthly forecasting process.
- Collaborate with Sales, Customer Service, and Operations to improve forecast accuracy.
- Establish demand planning assumptions and planning horizons.
- Identify forecast risks and recommend mitigation plans.
- Develop reporting and metrics to track forecast performance.
Process Improvement
- Assess current planning and procurement processes.
- Identify gaps in systems, master data, and workflows.
- Improve ERP planning parameters and data accuracy.
- Develop standard operating procedures and planning best practices.
- Recommend long-term organizational improvements for planning and procurement functions.
Supplier & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with suppliers to improve responsiveness and service performance.
- Partner with Procurement to address supply risks and opportunities.
- Facilitate communication between Planning, Procurement, Operations, and Sales.
- Participate in supply chain reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
Operational Support & Coverage
- Provide day-to-day support and leadership to the Production Planner and Purchasing Coordinator.
- Act as the primary backup for both planning and purchasing functions during vacations, illnesses, or other absences.
- Maintain sufficient knowledge of planning and procurement processes to execute critical activities, including:
- Production scheduling and schedule adjustments.
- Purchase order creation and management.
- Material requirements planning (MRP).
- Supplier communications and issue resolution.
- Inventory management and replenishment activities.
- Expediting critical materials.
- Ensure business continuity by documenting processes and establishing cross-functional coverage plans.
- Identify opportunities to reduce key-person dependency within planning and procurement functions.
ERP Implementation & Supply Chain Systems
- Serve as the Supply Chain subject matter expert (SME) for ERP implementation activities.
- Partner with Operations, Finance, Procurement, and IT teams to support ERP project deliverables.
- Support the validation and cleanse of critical supply chain master data, including: Supplier records, Item master data, Bills of Material, Lead times, Minimum order quantities (MOQs), Safety stock settings, Reorder parameters
- Assist with business process mapping and future-state design.
- Support system testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and process validation.
- Support end-user training and change management activities.
- Identify opportunities to leverage ERP functionality to improve planning accuracy, inventory control, and procurement efficiency.
- Provide recommendations regarding MRP settings, inventory policies, and planning workflows.
Employment Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in supply chain planning, production planning, procurement, or operations within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in food manufacturing or consumer packaged goods preferred.
- Demonstrated success improving planning, forecasting, and inventory performance.
- Strong understanding of: Production planning, Inventory management, MRP, Forecasting
- Experience working with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Business Central, or similar.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM, CSCP) considered an asset.
Additional Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in both production planning and purchasing/procurement functions.
- Ability to operate at both a strategic and tactical level, including execution of day-to-day planning and purchasing activities when required.
- Experience supporting food manufacturing operations in a fast-paced environment.
Pay: $40.00-$47.00 per hour
