What is the Opportunity:
Reporting to the Preconstruction Director, this is an opportunity for an experienced Project Coordinator or Field Engineer to develop their skills in the areas of preconstruction, bid development for large scale, complex, civil infrastructure projects. This position is suited to individuals who have 3 to 5 years of field experience and who would like to transition into an estimating role or who would like to participate and gain bid experience, and later follow the project to operations position once the project is awarded and in active construction.
What You'll Do Here:
Pursuing various projects including a combination of bid-build, design-build and PPP projects ranging from bridges, tunnels, highways to water & wastewater treatment
Working with estimate teams on bid preparations
Formulates all costs for tender submission – labour, equipment, material, rentals and subcontracts
Quantity takeoff and updating estimate software with quantities
Subcontractor/Vendor solicitation
Subcontractor/Vendor Quote comparisons
Inserting quotes into estimate software
Assisting with means and methods for project construction
Assisting in design build process and working with design teams
Analyzes documents, drawings, specifications, proposals, addendums in preparation for pricing.
Obtains input from Operations staff as appropriate.
Accountable for accuracy and completeness of tender submissions.
Drives Estimating process / procedure compliance and consistency.
Performs Post Bid / Post Project Analysis completion and that associated learning and communication takes place.
Assists with Prequalification submissions, RFQ’s and RFI’s as required.
Incorporates / complies with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures.
Drives positive relationships and serves as key contact with Clients, Consultants and key subcontractors.
What You Bring to the Team:
Post-secondary school education in Civil Engineering or Construction Management disciplines; or acceptable combination of education and previous experience.
A minimum of 3-5 years working as a Field Engineer or Project Coordinator, ideally in project engineering or heavy civil construction environment.
Knowledge of construction equipment & techniques, drawing & specifications, building materials and required standards applicable to the project.
Proficient in software related to the construction industry (e.g., Primavera Scheduling software, AutoCAD, SAP etc.).
Excellent computer skills including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral.
Flexibility to work in both field and office.
Valid BC driver’s license.
The expected pay range for this position is $70,000 - $85,000.
