We’re looking for a dedicated Code Consultant to join our growing collaborative team. In this role, you will work on a wide range of projects, applying building and fire code requirements to evaluate designs, develop compliance strategies, and support project teams through all stages of development.
This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse and challenging projects while collaborating with architects, engineers, designers, authorities having jurisdiction, and building owners. Position Overview
This role will be working on varying building projects of diverse scope where application of Building & Fire Codes requires evaluation of multi-disciplinary design features and development and assessment of innovative design options. The position will involve application of architectural and engineering principles to building and design problems, including the analysis of integrated Fire/Life safety design concepts, assessment of architectural designs and consultation with architects, designers and building owners.
Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze construction documents and design submissions to determine compliance with building codes and local regulations focusing on fire protection and life safety requirements of the Canadian building codes (Part 3 and Part 9)
- Evaluate fire protection, life safety, and accessibility requirements for residential, commercial, institutional, and public buildings.
- Develop practical code-compliance strategies and alternative solutions for complex design challenges.
- Prepare clear, concise technical reports, code analyses, and correspondence.
- Communicate and collaborate with architects, designers, engineers, authorities having jurisdiction, and project stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, records, and time tracking.
- Participate in team discussions, project meetings, and occasional site visits as required.
Job Skills & Requirements:
- Diploma or degree in Architecture, Construction, Building Science, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience.
- Expert knowledge of National and Provincial Building and Fire Codes, with demonstrated experience applying code requirements to building projects.
- Experience working on medium to large residential, commercial, institutional, healthcare, educational, or public-sector projects.
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and other construction documents.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is an asset but not required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with Bluebeam and PyroSim is considered an asset.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, authorities having jurisdiction, and other industry professionals.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, work independently, and consistently meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and adaptable, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Salary: $45,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
