Position Summary
Escarpment Construction is seeking an experienced and hardworking Asphalt Finish Raker to join our paving crew. The successful candidate will be responsible for handwork associated with asphalt paving operations, ensuring proper grading, smooth transitions, and high-quality finished surfaces. This role requires physical endurance, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced construction environment.
Responsibilities
- Rake and lute hot asphalt to achieve proper grade, slope, and finish.
- Assist the paving crew in producing smooth joints, transitions, and surface finishes.
- Work alongside paver operators, roller operators, and laborers to ensure quality paving operations.
- Perform handwork around catch basins, manholes, curbs, sidewalks, and other obstacles.
- Check grades and elevations using string lines, levels, and other measuring tools.
- Assist with asphalt repairs, patching, and resurfacing projects.
- Maintain a safe and organized work area at all times.
- Follow company health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and cleaning tools and equipment.
- Perform general labor duties as required.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as an Asphalt Raker, Asphalt Labourer, or Paving Crew Member preferred.
- Knowledge of asphalt paving techniques, grades, and finishing practices.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs (23 kg) and perform physically demanding work.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Reliable transportation to job sites.
- Valid Ontario Driver's License considered an asset.
- Ability to work overtime, evenings, and weekends when required.
