About National Carpentry Installation
National Carpentry Installation is a growing construction and installation company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We provide commercial and residential installation services and are expanding our service divisions to better support our clients and projects.
We are currently looking for an experienced Plumbing & Mechanical Department Lead / Foreman to help us build and manage a plumbing and mechanical service division within our company.
Position Summary
The Plumbing & Mechanical Department Lead / Foreman will be responsible for supervising plumbing and mechanical work, training technicians, estimating project costs, preparing material and labour takeoffs, coordinating with clients and project managers, and helping the company meet the licensing and operational requirements needed to perform plumbing and mechanical work properly.
This role is ideal for an experienced journeyperson plumber, gas fitter, or mechanical/HVAC professional who has strong leadership skills and wants to help build a new department.
Key Responsibilities
· Supervise plumbers, apprentices, technicians, and subcontractors on job sites.
· Plan, schedule, assign, and review plumbing and mechanical work.
· Train and mentor technicians in safe work practices, proper installation methods, and code-compliant procedures.
· Review drawings, site conditions, specifications, and project requirements.
· Prepare estimates, material takeoffs, labour takeoffs, equipment lists, and project cost breakdowns.
· Coordinate with project managers, general contractors, clients, suppliers, inspectors, and other trades.
· Inspect completed work to ensure it meets code, safety, quality, and project requirements.
· Assist with permit coordination, inspection preparation, and required documentation.
· Help develop company procedures for plumbing, mechanical, service calls, documentation, and safety.
· Support the company in meeting the requirements to operate as a licensed plumbing/mechanical contractor, where applicable.
· Enforce safety rules and ensure work is completed safely and professionally.
· Maintain job records, site notes, change orders, material lists, and progress reports.
· Identify project risks, missing materials, design issues, or site conflicts before they cause delays.
Required Qualifications
· Manitoba Journeyperson Plumber Certificate or Interprovincial Red Seal Plumber Certificate.
· Strong knowledge of plumbing code, construction methods, fixtures, drainage, water lines, rough-ins, finishing, and service work.
· Experience supervising plumbers, apprentices, technicians, or subcontractors.
· Ability to estimate plumbing work, including material, labour, equipment, and project costs.
· Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, specifications, and site instructions.
· Strong understanding of construction site safety requirements.
· Valid driver’s licence.
· Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
· City of Winnipeg Plumbing Contractor Licence, or ability and willingness to qualify for the required contractor licence/exam.
· Gasfitter licence, Class A or Class B, if applicable.
· Mechanical/HVAC experience, including ventilation, ducting, exhaust, make-up air, mechanical equipment, or HVAC coordination.
· City of Winnipeg M1 Mechanical Contractor Licence, or ability and willingness to support the company in obtaining the required licence where applicable.
· Experience helping a company manage permits, inspections, and compliance requirements.
· Experience preparing estimates, quotes, change orders, and material takeoffs.
· Experience training technicians or apprentices.
· Safety certifications such as WHMIS, Fall Protection, First Aid/CPR, Aerial Lift, or SiteReadyMB.

The successful candidate should be able to supervise work, train technicians, estimate projects, coordinate with other trades, and help the company grow while maintaining proper quality, safety, and compliance.
This person must be professional, reliable, organized, and able to communicate clearly with workers, clients, suppliers, inspectors, and management.
Compensation
Competitive wage based on experience, licensing, and ability to support the company’s plumbing and mechanical operations.
