Position Summary
The successful candidate will report to the Director of Projects and/or an assigned Project Manager and will support a portfolio of upstream and midstream oil and gas projects. This role works closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams (Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation & Controls, Civil/Structural), procurement, project controls, quality, and project management to manage design responsibilities, coordinate with vendors and contractors, and resolve design-related issues throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
The Project Engineer will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Act as project lead for design basis development, coordination, capital budgets, and schedules
- Provide project support and/or leadership for mid- to large-sized capital projects
- Build and maintain strong client relationships
- Prepare Design Basis Memorandums (DBMs) and Scopes of Work
- Coordinate with all disciplines in the development of engineering man-hour estimates
- Initiate and maintain line lists, equipment lists, and vendor lists
- Lead technical evaluations and vendor documentation reviews
- Coordinate the development of process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
- Participate in HAZOPs and close out assigned action items
- Support field engineering assignments as required
- Coordinate interdisciplinary design activities to ensure timely, accurate information flow while maintaining company and client standards
- Review engineering calculations, equipment specifications, and detailed engineering drawings
- Prepare and review equipment and service contract bids and proposals
- Review and evaluate vendor design data, calculations, and drawings, and communicate with suppliers and clients
- Manage regulatory submissions for facility projects to AER, AENV, ABSA, OGC, and other regulatory bodies as required
- Provide procurement support for small- to large-sized equipment, from purchase order through expediting
- Provide construction and commissioning support
- Interact professionally with clients through meetings, meeting minutes, and written correspondence
Qualifications
- Engineering Degree or Technologist Diploma with 4–10 years of relevant experience
- Registered or eligible for registration as a P.Eng., P.L Eng or working toward P.Eng/P.L. Eng., in Alberta, British Columbia, and/or Saskatchewan

- Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
- Experience working in project-based, multidisciplinary teams
- Process engineering experience
- Ability to work under tight deadlines while meeting project objectives
- Strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude, and a desire to contribute to design and project engineering
- Ability to manage competing priorities and time effectively
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience using MS Project for scheduling
- Self-starter capable of working independently when required
- Strong experience in interdisciplinary coordination
- Willingness and ability to travel to vendor and construction sites
