PEI School Food Program Inc. is a not-for-profit organization responsible for successfully developing and delivering the school lunch program in Public Schools Branch (PSB) and Commission de Langue Française (CSLF) schools. Our mission is to cultivate a healthy and inclusive food culture in Island schools.
Kitchen Assistant – Elmsdale, PEI
The Kitchen Assistant will be a part of the Food Service Team at the Westisle Composite School Food Hub. Working under the direction of the Kitchen Manager to prepare and serve hot and cold meals to students. This is a fast-paced, rewarding position, providing nutritious meals to school-age children.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in inventory control and ordering as requested by the Kitchen Manager
- Prepare hot and cold meals from scratch as directed by the Kitchen Manager
- Serve meals to students and collect payment
- Clean and maintain work environment, following regulations for health, hygiene, and sanitation
- Deliver meals from the centralized kitchen to nearby schools as required
And other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Food safety certification
Experience:
- 1-2 years' experience in the food services industry
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy items
- Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control
- Knowledge of food service, including cooking and preparing a variety of foods quality standards and presentation techniques
- Ability to follow routine instructions and safety procedures
- Well-developed organizational and time management skills
- Possess good interpersonal skills and a strong customer service orientation
- Enthusiastic and motivated team player
- Access to a reliable large vehicle for use as needed for food delivery (mileage will be paid)
- A valid driver's license, up-to-date insurance, registration and a driver's abstract are required
The PEI School Food Program offers a competitive salary of $20.09 per hour (+6% vacation pay), an attractive benefits package (including health and dental) wellness spending, and an RRSP matching package after a one-year anniversary. This position will be full-time, Monday- Friday, 37.5 hours per week, and part-year (10 months), continued. Working months: September- June; Off July- August with continued benefits.
