THE OPPORTUNITY
Kingsbridge Retirement Community is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Practical Nurse to support the day-to-day operations of the care department as the Assistant Director of Care. The ADOC will assist with the management of Resident Care and nursing services at the property, while following legislative and regulatory standards, and Company policies and procedures. In the absence of the Director of Care, the ADOC will assume the management duties of the DOC.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, directs and supervises health care programs for Residents:
- Collaborating with the Director of Care to schedule and adjust staffing levels to ensure consistency with the residence’s occupancy levels, the acuity of the residents and the services being offered.
- Overseeing and supervising the medication administration program including administering of medications, completing audits, monitor control and safekeeping of drugs and narcotics.
- Overseeing and supervising Unregulated Care Providers as it pertains to medication administration and annual training requirements.
- Assists with conducting nursing assessments of potential and existing residents to ensure appropriate level of care, and refer to alternative providers where appropriate.· Ensures compliance with all Federal and Provincial regulations, and follows the standards as set out by the provincial licensing body responsible for credentialing nurses.
- Assists with creation and maintenance of a Care Plan for all Residents.
- Meets with the Residents and families to resolve problems and concerns and adjust care plans to address the needs presented.
- Assists with ensuring the nutritional needs of the Residents are met in connection with the Residents’ care plans.
- Participates in ongoing monitoring of an infection control program.
- Deliver care to residents as necessary.
- Assumes the responsibility of the nursing department in the absence of the Director of Care in relation to complaints, internal investigations, employee incident reports, scheduling issues, staff discipline.
Assists DOC with managing the staff responsible for providing resident health care services:
- Hires, orientates, and manages performance of Care staff; oversees students as required.
- Creates and adjusts staff schedules for optimum levels of quality care.
- Coordinates and/or provides training, orientation and in-service education for all staff.
- Supports nursing operations by assisting with floor duties and nursing-related tasks as required.
- Enforce and adhere to all appropriate workplace regulations, compliances, legislation and Company policies and procedures, including Company dress code.
Administrative:
- Oversees the creation and maintenance of nursing and medical files for all Residents.
- Participates actively in all Health and Safety, Fire and Quality Assurance programs.
- Participates in regular department meetings.
- Assumes duties as required in the absence of the Director of Care, and is on-call every other weekend to support Unregulated Care Providers as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Walking, stretching and standing on a variety of surfaces for at least 4 hrs. per day.
- Lift alone, up to 50 pounds.
- Pushing, pulling wheeled equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Bending, stooping on a regular basis.
- Climbing stairs and able to work in confined spaces.
- Evening and weekend coverage as required.
WHO YOU ARE
- Maintains a current registration as a Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Experienced in geriatric, rehabilitation or long-term care.
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Good written and verbal English communication skills.
- Continuously follow the principles of “good customer service” and ensure that these values are demonstrated in day to day practices.
- Demonstrate solid nursing skills as per the College of Nurses standards of practice.
- Demonstrate the ability to interact effectively within the team, with residents, families as well as external service resources.
- Organizational and leadership skills.
- Must be able to provide a police check with vulnerable sector screen upon hire.
- Must be able to provide a record of immunization for TB test upon hire.
- Must be able to provide a record of vaccination for COVID-19 (minimum 2 doses) upon hire.
