Overview
The Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club is looking for a motivated and reliable Operations Manager to join our team. In this hands-on leadership role, you’ll work alongside a dedicated team of staff and volunteers to keep our trails, facilities, and equipment in top condition. If you’re someone who shows strong leadership, enjoys learning new skills, and shares a love for Nordic skiing, we’d love to hear from you.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain facilities and core systems (building, electrical, plumbing, water, septic) and coordinate contractors as needed.
- Coordinate an experienced volunteer grooming team, perform trail grooming (training can be provided), and oversee trail safety and hazard management.
- Oversee repair and maintenance of the equipment and grooming fleet, managing parts and fuel inventory within budget.
- Coordinate snow removal and garbage contracts, and oversee health & safety protocols for all staff and volunteers.
- Supervise operations assistant and seasonal trail crew; operate equipment including chainsaw and backhoe for off-season trail work (training can be provided for the right candidate).
- Prepare board reports, consult on the operations budget, and collaborate with the GM, Trail Committee, and Operations Director on planning and funding for trail projects.
Personal Suitability - Required
- Clear, respectful communicator who works well with staff, volunteers, and leadership.
- Self-directed and resourceful — takes initiative and follows through without being prompted.
- Safety-minded, organized, and comfortable working outdoors in all conditions.
Skills and Experience
- Some experience with operating power tools, machinery, and vehicles is required; familiarity across a wider range of equipment is preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude is required — overseeing routine maintenance on grooming fleet, performing maintenance on power tools; role-specific training will be provided.
- Comfortable supervising staff or volunteers.
- Snow cat or groomer operation experience is preferred; candidates without grooming experience should have demonstrated experience operating comparable off-road equipment (e.g. snowmobile, backhoe, or heavy machinery).
Knowledge
- General building familiarity — someone who is handy and can spot a problem, diagnose what’s going on, and coordinate the right help; hands-on trades experience (carpentry, plumbing, electrical) is an asset but not essential.
- Basic computer literacy (Word, Excel, Google platforms).
- Solid understanding of snow conditions and trail building principles — the ability to identify variability and make informed grooming decisions is essential to the role.
Above all, we’re looking for someone who communicates clearly and takes initiative — someone who sees what needs to be done and does it. A wide range of skills is an asset, and training can be provided where needed.
