Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking an Electrical & Mechanical Commissioning & Trials Engineer to lead and support the safe, efficient commissioning, testing, and trials of electrical and mechanical systems onboard new construction and repair vessels. This role supervises and mentors unionized trades teams, coordinates closely with Production and Trials stakeholders, and ensures all work meets schedule, quality, and safety requirements. The position plays a key role in troubleshooting complex systems, improving productivity, and delivering compliant, high-quality vessels for sea trials and acceptance. It is well suited for experienced marine professionals, including current or former RCN marine technicians, who excel in fast-paced operational environments.

Supervise and lead multi-skilled crew of unionized trades team members to pre-commission/test system I/O, set-to-work systems, commissioning, troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment and systems onboard new construction and ship repair areas.
Verify system handovers for completion and quality.
Perform trials to demonstrate system operation to our customer and inspectors in harbor and at sea.
Ensure work is progressing safely, efficiently and correctly in accordance with ship build schedule.
Co-ordinate scheduled and unscheduled work activities within the Trials team and with Production team counterparts.
Recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality.
Train crew members in job duties, safety procedures and company policies.
Performance Manage assigned crew members.
Complete daily time entry for assigned crew members.
Prepare production and other reports.
Ensure compliance with all Company Environmental, Health and Safety policies.
Ensure strict adherence to Company quality procedures and policies.

Completion of relevant Red Seal Trades certificate, University, College, Technical or Vocational Training, Marine Engineering or RCN Marine Technician qualification.
Years of Experience:
- 5+ years experience in one of, or a combination of, the following:
  - Commissioning naval or commercial ships in a new construction program, or comparable experience in naval ship modernization and overhaul.
  - Commissioning high tech systems in process or power plants.
  - Seagoing naval or commercial engineering experience
  - Production Supervisor, Production Work Lead, Chargehand or trades work experience in a Marine/Industrial/Shipbuilding environment.
Applicants should have a proven record of managing work in a safe and efficient manner.
Experience mentoring, training and/or coaching.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient with Computers. Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, Kronos, Aviva considered an asset.
Problem solving skills and ability to lead and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

This position would be of interest to former and current RCN marine technicians.
