Expert Agfa Anapurna Print Operator / Large Format Specialist
Soheil Mosun Limited is a leading custom architectural manufacturer and design-build company based in Toronto, specializing in high-end, bespoke fabrication for monumental architectural features, prestigious public art installations, and unique custom work. We're known for our exceptional craftsmanship, innovative problem-solving, and a collaborative team environment where complex designs are brought to life.
We are looking for a highly skilled, expert-level Agfa Anapurna Print Operator to join our dynamic team. If you are passionate about achieving flawless, high-resolution print finishes on diverse and unconventional substrates, and want to see your work integrated into monumental architectural projects, this role is for you. This position also offers the unique opportunity to undergo specialized training in acid etching, expanding your expertise in architectural surface treatments.
Job Overview
As our resident Agfa Anapurna expert, you will be the driving force behind our large-format and flatbed UV printing operations. You will push the capabilities of the equipment to produce exceptional graphics, patterns, and textures on a wide variety of architectural materials—including metals, glass, wood, and specialized acrylics. Beyond digital printing, this role will involve cross-training in traditional chemical surface treatments, specifically acid etching, bridging the gap between digital and artisanal finishes. From precise color management and complex file preparation to specialized metal etching and final output, your expertise will ensure our elements meet the exacting standards of our bespoke fabrications.
Responsibilities
- Machine Operation: Independently set up, operate, and optimize the Agfa Anapurna UV LED printer for both flatbed (rigid) and roll-to-roll (flexible) applications.
- Acid Etching & Surface Treatment: Undergo comprehensive on-the-job training to learn, safely manage, and execute precise acid etching processes on various architectural metals.
- Prepress & Advanced File Management: Utilize sophisticated Photoshop and Illustrator skills to manipulate complex art files, handle advanced vector editing, and perform rigorous flight-checks prior to RIP processing to ensure optimal print quality.
- Color Mastery: Manage strict color calibration, ICC profiling, and advanced color matching to maintain absolute consistency across various complex and highly reflective architectural substrates.
- Material Handling: Safely and precisely handle high-end architectural materials (e.g., stainless steel, bronze, glass, and heavy woods) before, during, and after the print and etching processes.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform rigorous preventative machine maintenance, including printhead care, ink management, and expert-level troubleshooting to eliminate downtime, while also maintaining a clean and safe etching workstation.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct rigorous visual and technical inspections of all printed and etched outputs to guarantee they meet the uncompromising quality standards required for public art and luxury architecture.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work seamlessly with the design, CAD detailing, and fabrication teams to advise on print capabilities, material compatibilities, adhesion requirements, and overall project integration.
Required Experience & Skills
- Technical Expertise: Expert-level, hands-on experience operating Agfa Anapurna wide-format UV hybrid printers (or highly comparable industrial UV flatbed systems).
- Software & Design Sophistication: Advanced, sophisticated capability in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is strictly required for complex file preparation and image manipulation. Deep proficiency in RIP software (specifically Agfa Asanti, though Onyx or Caldera experience is valued) is also essential.
- Willingness to Cross-Train: Demonstrated eagerness to learn new, non-digital fabrication skills, specifically chemical processes like acid etching, with a strict adherence to safety protocols.
- Color Theory: Strong practical understanding of color management, profiling, and spot color matching in a demanding, custom-production environment.
- Substrate Knowledge: Proven track record of successfully printing on non-traditional, rigid, and heavy architectural substrates—moving far beyond standard commercial signage media.
- Mechanical Aptitude: High comfort level with the mechanical workings of large-format UV printers, with the proven ability to diagnose and resolve hardware or print-quality issues quickly.
- Detail-Oriented: Exceptional attention to detail, capable of catching micro-imperfections in prepress files, final physical prints, and etched surfaces.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively within a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary manufacturing shop.
Preferred Qualifications
- Drafting Software: Experience with AutoCAD (or similar 2D drafting software) is a significant plus, enabling smooth collaboration with the engineering and detailing departments.
- Industry Experience: Previous experience operating within a custom architectural fabrication, industrial manufacturing, or bespoke millwork/metalwork environment.
- Metal Finishing: Prior experience or exposure to acid etching, chemical milling, or other metal patination processes is a significant advantage, though full training will be provided.
- Pre/Post-Treatment: Familiarity with pre-treatment processes (e.g., adhesion promoters/primers) and post-process finishing techniques specifically for specialty metals and glass.
- Education: Relevant post-secondary education in Graphic Communications, Print Management, Industrial Design, or a related technical field.
