Youth Program Manager
Location: Wachiay Friendship Centre
Position Type: Temporary Full-Time
Hours: 35 hours per week
Wage: $28.00 – $34.00 per hour
This is a temporary position to provide coverage for an employee leave. The term of the position will be based on operational needs and the expected duration of the leave.
Position Summary
Wachiay is seeking a Youth Program Manager to lead, coordinate, and support youth programming that strengthens Indigenous identity, self-respect, leadership, and well-being among youth.
The Youth Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the delivery and development of culturally responsive youth programs, including the Out of the Shadows program and the School’s Out Program. This position provides leadership, guidance, and support to youth program staff while ensuring programs are responsive to the needs of Indigenous youth, children, and families.
The Youth Program Manager will oversee the Youth Program Assistant, support program planning and delivery, build community partnerships, and provide education, resources, and connections for youth and families impacted by FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder), FAE (Fetal Alcohol Effects), and CDBC (Complex Developmental Behavioural Conditions).
The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, organizational, and relationship-building skills, with a commitment to culturally grounded, strengths-based programming.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the delivery, coordination, and ongoing development of the Out of the Shadows and School’s Out youth programs.
- Provide leadership, direction, mentorship, and support to the Youth Program Assistant.
- Coordinate program activities, schedules, and services to ensure effective delivery of youth programming.
- Develop and implement culturally appropriate activities that promote Indigenous identity, confidence, leadership, and personal growth among youth.
- Provide support, education, and resources to youth and families regarding FASD, FAE, and CDBC.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with youth, families, schools, community organizations, and service providers.
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships to strengthen supports, resources, and opportunities for youth and families.
- Plan, facilitate, and evaluate activities that encourage skill development, connection, and positive outcomes for youth.
- Support youth and families in accessing appropriate services, referrals, and community resources.
- Develop strategies to increase awareness, build capacity, and strengthen community connections.
- Maintain program documentation, monitor outcomes, and contribute to reporting and continuous improvement.
- Participate in outreach, community events, and initiatives that support youth well-being.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
- Experience supervising staff, volunteers, or program teams.
- Experience developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating community-based programs.
- Knowledge and understanding of FASD, FAE, CDBC, and the impacts these conditions may have on children, youth, and families.
- Experience working with Indigenous youth, children, families, and communities.
- Knowledge of child and youth development, cognitive skill development, and developmental programming.
- Experience with outreach, education, training, and community partnership development.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to create a safe, supportive, and culturally respectful environment for youth and staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively with community partners, schools, families, and service providers.
- Ability to demonstrate patience, flexibility, empathy, and a strengths-based approach.
- Valid Class 4 Driver’s License required.
