Job Summary
The Shelter Support Worker plays a vital role in providing a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability. This position involves assisting residents with daily needs, ensuring the shelter operates smoothly, and fostering a respectful community atmosphere. The Shelter Support Worker is responsible for supervising and supporting residents, and maintaining safety protocols to promote stability and well-being for all individuals in the shelter.
Responsibilities
- Complete client intakes and support residents during their stay
- Collaborate with team members and external service providers
- Complete administrative tasks (filing, phones, data entry)
- Provide support with housing goals and referrals to community services
- Maintain accurate documentation (log notes, case notes, incident reports)
- Respond to crisis situations using a calm, trauma-informed approach
- Prepare and serve meals
- Perform custodial duties to maintain a clean and safe environment
- Follow care plans and support client well-being
Qualifications
- Diploma in Social Service Worker, Mental Health & Addictions, or related field
- Sensitivity to diversity and inclusion
- Experience working with vulnerable populations is an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Proficiency with computers (email, Microsoft Office)
- Ability to manage crisis situations effectively
- Demonstrated empathy, professionalism, and emotional maturity
- Ability to maintain healthy boundaries
Pay: From $22.27 per hour
