About Ideal Integration
Ideal Integration is Edmonton’s premier technology integration firm, delivering enterprise-grade commercial security, AV, automation, and smart building solutions to businesses across Northern Alberta. We serve corporate, government, retail, education, and multi-dwelling markets with systems built around access control, surveillance, intrusion detection, commercial AV, lighting, and building automation. Our residential division is equally recognized for luxury smart home installations, serving Alberta’s most discerning homeowners and custom builders.
As we accelerate our commercial growth – with data center security emerging as a key vertical – we are adding a Senior Commercial Security & Integration Technician to lead field execution and mentor junior team members.
Position Overview
This is a hands-on senior technical role for an experienced commercial security systems professional. You will lead the installation, commissioning, programming, and servicing of enterprise-grade security and access control systems across a wide range of commercial environments, including corporate offices, government facilities, retail, education, multi-dwelling units, and – increasingly – data centers.
In addition to your core commercial security expertise, you will be cross-trained on Ideal Integration’s high-end residential smart home platform (Control4, Lutron, and associated luxury AV systems), expanding your skill set and giving you the ability to contribute across both divisions.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Security & Access Control
- Lead installation, programming, and commissioning of access control systems (card readers, biometric scanners, mobile credential platforms), intrusion/alarm systems, and IP-based video surveillance networks.
- Design and execute structured cabling, head-end rack builds, and network infrastructure for security systems in commercial and mission-critical environments.
- Configure and integrate enterprise security platforms including DSC, Kantech, CDVI, and equivalent commercial-grade products.
- Conduct site surveys, prepare scope-of-work documentation, and collaborate with the sales and design teams on system specifications and proposals.
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency service calls across the existing commercial client base.
- Support the company’s expansion into data center physical security, including perimeter access, mantraps, cabinet-level locking, and integration with facility management systems.
Cross-Training: Residential Smart Home Integration
- Receive structured cross-training on Control4, Lutron, and associated residential automation platforms (lighting, AV distribution, shading, climate).
- Assist on luxury residential projects, contributing your commercial wiring discipline and structured cabling expertise to high-end home installations.
- Over time, develop the ability to independently program and commission residential smart home systems alongside your commercial security work.
Leadership & Mentoring
- Act as a technical lead on commercial job sites, overseeing junior technicians and subcontractors.
- Enforce quality standards, safety compliance, and professional workmanship across all installations.
- Contribute to the development of internal installation standards, checklists, and documentation for both commercial and residential divisions.
Required Qualifications

- Experience with structured cabling (Cat6/6A, fiber termination) and commercial-grade rack builds.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical drawings, and system schematics.
- Valid Alberta driver’s license and willingness to travel across Northern Alberta as required.
- Strong communication skills and a professional, client-facing demeanor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Alberta Journeyman Electrician certification or equivalent relevant trade certification.
- CEDIA, NICET, or manufacturer-specific certifications in security or low-voltage systems.
- Experience with data center physical security systems (biometric access, environmental monitoring, cabinet locking).
