Eligibility to Work in Canada Applicants must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or hold a valid Working Holiday or Student Visa. Applications from individuals without legal authorization to work in Canada will not be considered.
Purpose of the Role Camp Counsellors are the heart, soul, and magic of the Camp Tidnish experience. For nearly 90 years, Camp Tidnish has been creating unforgettable summers, meaningful connections, and life-changing experiences for campers and staff alike. As a Camp Counsellor, you will help deliver our recreational camping program while providing direct, daily support to campers in accordance with Camp Tidnish and Easter Seals Nova Scotia policies and procedures. You’ll work closely with campers to support personal care needs, ensure safety and wellbeing, and create a fun, inclusive, and empowering environment where everyone belongs.
This role is ideal for individuals looking for personal development, leadership growth, and career progression in fields such as recreation, education, social services, healthcare, and disability support — all while having an incredible amount of fun.
Previous experience in overnight camps and/or working with individuals with disabilities is considered an asset, but not a requirement. We provide comprehensive training and ongoing support throughout the summer.
Education & Experience
- Must be 18 years of age or older on or before June 3, 2026
- Experience working or volunteering with persons with disabilities is an asset
- Experience working in an overnight camp setting is an asset
Required Qualifications

- Current First Aid, AED, and CPR Level C certification (or willingness to obtain)
Key Responsibilities Under the direction of the Camp Director, Camp Counsellors are expected to:
- Participate fully in all required staff training sessions
- Lead and support a cabin of 6–8 campers, alongside other counsellors
- Provide full personal care support as required, including:
- Toileting and bathing
- Dressing and grooming
- Feeding and hydration
- Lifting and transfers
- Bedtime and morning routines
- Actively participate in and help deliver daily camp programs
- Model and interpret Camp Tidnish rules, traditions, and expectations
- Ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of campers at all times
- Address behavioural concerns using appropriate strategies and, when necessary, disciplinary procedures
- Complete all Incident and Accident Reports accurately and in a timely manner
Working Conditions
- Live-On-Site Requirement: This is a residential position. All primary work duties take place on-site at the Camp Tidnish facility (130 Irwins Point Rd, Baie Verte, NB).
- Counsellors are required to live on-site during active camp sessions and be on call as needed to support campers.
- Room and board are included as part of compensation.
- Camp Tidnish operates from May 30 – August 28, 2026.
- Typical workdays run from 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m., with breaks, plus any additional time required to meet camper and program needs.
Time Off & Breaks
- Freedom to Leave: While staff live on-site during sessions, you are completely free to leave the camp property during your scheduled breaks and days off.
- Counsellors receive a three-day break between each camp session, providing valuable time to rest, recharge, and explore the region or head home.
- A mid-season break is built into the summer schedule, offering extended time off to travel, relax, or reset.
- This schedule allows staff to fully engage in the camp experience while maintaining balance and energy throughout the summer.
COVID-19 Policy Easter Seals Nova Scotia works with a vulnerable population. As such, testing and vaccination requirements remain in place for all staff, clients, program participants, and volunteers directly involved in program delivery at Camp Tidnish.
