Overview
Roots Youth Care is seeking to hire compassionate and dedicated Youth Care Practitioners to join our team. In this role, you will work directly with children and young individuals, providing support, guidance, and care in a nurturing environment. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children / youth, demonstrating patience, teaching ability, and a strong commitment to positive youth development. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people while developing valuable skills in caregiving and education.
The ideal candidate is expected to excel at working with high risk youth and should possess favourable Youth Care Practitioner abilities. If you lack experience but are willing to acquire it, or if you have the experience and skills necessary to build relationships and achieve both treatment and organizational objectives, we want you for the position.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily care and supervision for children and youth in a safe and supportive setting
- Develop and implement engaging activities that promote learning, social skills, and emotional well-being
- Support the youth by assisting with daily routines and encouraging participation in activities
- Foster a positive environment that encourages growth, independence, and self-esteem
- Collaborate with team members to create individualized care plans tailored to each child's needs
- Maintain accurate documentation of progress, behaviors, and incidents as required
- Teach life skills, social skills, or educational concepts to children based on their developmental needs
- Respond appropriately to behavioral challenges with patience and effective intervention strategies
Requirements / Experience
- Prior experience working with children or youth in educational, recreational, or care settings is preferred
- Experience working with children with different needs is highly desirable
- Demonstrated ability to teach or facilitate learning activities effectively
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusting relationships with children, team members and external interface (where applicable).
- Compassionate attitude coupled with patience and adaptability for working in dynamic environments
- Availability to attend training, staff meetings, and group sessions.
- Ability to learn and display de-escalation and trauma adeptness
- Valid class 5 driver’s license,
- Valid First Aid/CPR Certification;
- Clear Criminal Record and clear Vulnerable Sector checks;
- Clear Child Abuse Registry and satisfactory Prior Contact checks;

Pay: $17.35-$20.00 per hour
