As part of the FDPG Corporate Food Safety and QA team, we are seeking an experienced QA Specialist who will play an integral role in overseeing food safety requirements and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. This position is responsible for ensuring product quality and process standards are effectively established, maintained, and optimized while identifying opportunities to enhance operations and support customer satisfaction.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Manage and continuously improve food safety and quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with regulatory, customer, CanadaGAP, and third-party audit requirements.
- Maintain and verify Preventive Control Plans, HACCP programs, SOPs, records, documentation, and traceability systems, including mock recalls and recall coordination.
- Identify program gaps, investigate non-conformances, complaints, incidents, and out-of-specification results, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor and analyze testing, sanitation, environmental, supplier, and quality performance data, reporting trends and key findings to management.
- Conduct internal audits, inspections, program reviews, and prepare for regulatory, customer, and third-party audits with follow-up on findings.
- Verify GMP, sanitation, allergen, pest, chemical, temperature, and environmental monitoring programs, including sanitation validation activities.
- Coordinate food safety training and provide technical support to Operations, R&D, Sales, Purchasing, and other departments while supporting additional operational requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Food Safety, or related field preferred, with 3–5 years of QA/QC experience in a CFIA-regulated environment.
- Experience in food manufacturing and processing, including developing food safety plans for produce and non-produce products.
- HACCP and PCQI certification with strong knowledge of GMPs, food safety systems, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess technical reports, procedures, and regulations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, including employee training and stakeholder collaboration.
- Strong organizational abilities with attention to detail, effective prioritization, time management, multitasking, and accurate recordkeeping.
- Proficiency in MS Office and business systems, with experience preparing policies, SOPs, reports, and maintaining documentation.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and dependable, with proven leadership and team-building skills and the ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of supply chain, inventory management, value chain concepts, and business processes, with the ability to quickly learn new tools and systems.
