Job Summary:
The Domestic Violence Community Liaison gathers information and assesses family functioning concerns arising from recent domestic violence. The Liaison develops and implements intervention plans within program guidelines and provides referrals, parenting skill development, emotional support, and feedback to clients.
This position serves as a specialist in the area of domestic violence and works closely with Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) Social Workers and families to maximize access to appropriate resources and supports. The Liaison collaborates with community agencies and professionals to support women and children referred by MCFD.
While based out of the main office in Prince George, services are delivered in clients’ homes and within the community. Service delivery is provided within the context of each family’s values, beliefs, and cultural practices, ensuring respectful, culturally responsive, and client-centered support. This position requires the ability to work in a high-stress environment while supporting individuals and families experiencing complex and sensitive situations. Some work outside of regular office hours may be required; however, total hours will not exceed 35 hours per week.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Gathers information relevant to the client’s problems, needs and risks by interviewing, observing behaviour, meeting with caregivers and service providers and using a variety of inventories, checklists and questionnaires. Assesses the information gathered to identify client problems, needs and risks. Develops and implements an intervention plan within program guidelines.
Provides support, guidance and problem-solving to clients to address issues related to family functioning in an individual or group setting using techniques such as active listening, conflict resolution, basic group counselling techniques and psycho-educational group methods to resolve the identified problems, needs and risks.
Participates in the development, modification and evaluation of client service plans with the integrated case management team. Participates in integrated case management meetings on a regular basis to report clients’ activities and progress.
Outlines services provided by the program and/or organization. Provides information on and referral to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required.
Provides parenting skill building to clients on issues such as parent-child interaction, child development, discipline and guidance, and behaviour management.
Provides emotional support and feedback to clients.
Plans and conducts group educational sessions on topics related to family functioning.
Liaises with and/or promotes the interests of clients with other community service providers, professionals and school personnel as required. Accompanies clients to meetings and appointments as required.
Maintains related records and statistics and provides reports to the supervisor.
Performs other related duties as required.
Qualification:
Education, Training and Experience
A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, or related field.
At least two (2) years related experience, and previous experience working with families who have experienced domestic violence.
Pay: $29.17-$33.49 per hour
