About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 82-year-old woman living independently in a mobile home community near the Trenton airbase. She's experiencing short-term memory challenges and often forgets recent conversations. Following the recent loss of her beloved dog of 14 years and her husband's passing 5 years ago, she's dealing with significant loneliness. She spends most of her day moving between her bedroom and living room, watching TV, and has lost interest in crafts and hobbies she once enjoyed. While she can manage basic self-care and still has her driver's license (though this may change soon), she struggles with meal planning, often purchasing fast food instead of cooking, and her home needs organizational support. Her daughter lives 2.5 hours away and visits on Tuesdays and Thursdays when possible.
Responsibilities:
- Provide warm, consistent companionship and social engagement during visits
- Assist with light housekeeping tasks including checking the fridge for expired food, tidying countertops, and maintaining a clean living space
- Offer memory prompts and gentle redirection as needed
- Accompany her on outings such as coffee dates, shopping trips, or walks
- Occasionally assist with grocery shopping and transportation to appointments
- Help with simple tasks like operating the air conditioning or other household items
- Monitor her overall wellbeing and communicate any concerns to family
What We're Looking For:
- A female caregiver who is calm, patient, and brings positive energy
- Someone who makes clients feel comfortable and respected
- Experience with memory care and cognitive support
- Reliable, consistent, and takes initiative when needed
- Clear communicator who keeps family informed
- English speaking with minimal accent for ease of understanding
- Understanding that the client can be unpredictable in mood and may occasionally become upset over perceived slights
Schedule:
Two visits per week, 3 hours each visit, in the afternoon (avoiding Tuesdays and Thursdays). Flexible between Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or other weekday combinations. Consistency with the same caregiver is essential for building trust and routine.
