Element Steel Inc. is a growing structural steel and fabrication company serving commercial construction and commercial real estate (CRE) markets across Alberta. We are known for delivering accurate estimates, practical solutions, and responsive client communication. As we expand, we are seeking a Senior Lead Estimator who brings strong leadership, initiative, and consistent client engagement.
Position Overview
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys analyzing drawings, communicating with contractors, and preparing accurate estimates for a wide range of commercial and industrial steel projects. The successful candidate will be technically strong, highly organized, and comfortable collaborating with clients and internal teams throughout the estimating process.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates for structural and miscellaneous steel projects, including stairs, railings, platforms, ladders, embeds, and custom steel components
- Review structural and architectural drawings, specifications, and tender documents
- Perform quantity take-offs and develop labour, material, and fabrication cost estimates
- Solicit and review supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Communicate with general contractors and project stakeholders to clarify scope and requirements
- Coordinate with project management, detailing, and fabrication teams to ensure accurate pricing
- Maintain organized records of bids, take-offs, and project documentation
- Participate in project handoff meetings after project award
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years estimating experience in structural and/or miscellaneous steel
- Strong ability to read structural and architectural drawings
- Understanding of steel fabrication and installation processes
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Clear and professional communication with clients and project teams
- Proficiency with estimating software and spreadsheets
- Client-facing confidence and professionalism
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
