We are seeking motivated university students to join our team as One-on-One Coding and Programming Tutors. This paid, part-time internship focuses on supporting students enrolled in university-level computer science, software development and programming courses.
Applicants may specialize in one programming language, technology or computer science subject area and are not expected to be experts in every topic listed.

- Python
- Java

- HTML and CSS

- Object-oriented programming
- Data structures and algorithms

- Software engineering
- Introductory computer science
- Other related programming or computing subjects
In this role, you will provide personalized, one-on-one online tutoring within your area or areas of expertise. You will help students understand programming concepts, debug code, strengthen problem-solving skills and prepare for assignments, projects, quizzes and examinations.
This internship is ideal for students studying computer science, software engineering, engineering, information technology or a related field who enjoy coding, explaining technical concepts and helping others learn.
Responsibilities
- Provide personalized, one-on-one online tutoring for university-level coding and programming courses
- Support students specifically within your programming language or subject area of expertise
- Adapt lessons to each student’s academic level, course requirements and learning goals
- Explain programming concepts clearly using examples, demonstrations and guided practice
- Help students understand algorithms, data structures, program design and computational thinking
- Guide students through debugging, testing and troubleshooting processes
- Assist students with coding exercises, assignments, projects and exam preparation
- Help students identify errors and improve their code without completing graded work on their behalf
- Teach effective coding practices, documentation, organization and problem-solving strategies
- Prepare personalized practice exercises and learning resources when needed
- Use screen sharing, online teaching platforms and coding environments effectively
- Track individual student progress and provide clear, constructive feedback
- Communicate professionally with students and the education team
- Collaborate with the education team to improve programming resources and student outcomes
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution
- Studying computer science, software engineering, engineering, information technology or a related field
- Must meet the eligibility requirements of the VFC internship program
- Strong academic knowledge in at least one programming language or computer science subject
- Applicants are not required to know every language or topic listed
- Ability to write, read, explain and debug code within your area of expertise
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly, patiently and step by step
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable working individually with students in an online environment
- Reliable internet connection and access to a suitable computer
- Organized, dependable and committed to helping students succeed
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous tutoring, teaching, mentoring or teaching-assistant experience
- Strong grades in relevant university programming or computer science courses
- Experience supporting beginners or students with limited programming experience
- Experience creating coding exercises, tutorials or educational materials
- Familiarity with Git, GitHub, integrated development environments or collaborative coding tools
Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
