Job Overview
First Community is looking for an experienced, organized and community-minded Community Cook & Kitchen Coordinator to join our team.
This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys cooking, is comfortable preparing food in larger quantities, and can help keep a busy community kitchen organized, safe and running smoothly.
Our kitchen supports community meals, special events and other food programs that bring people together. We are looking for someone who takes pride in good food, works well with volunteers and enjoys being part of a welcoming and inclusive community environment.
What you'll do
- Prepare and cook meals for community programs, and special functions such as Rotary meetings.
- Plan and organize food preparation for both small and large groups
- Coordinate kitchen workflow and help ensure meals are prepared and served on time
- Maintain high standards of food safety, sanitation and kitchen cleanliness
- Monitor food supplies and assist with ordering, inventory and reducing food waste
- Receive and appropriately store food deliveries and donated food
- Work collaboratively with staff, contract cooks and volunteers
- Provide clear direction and support to volunteers working in the kitchen
- Help maintain an organized, efficient and welcoming kitchen environment
- Assist with menu planning and adapting meals when dietary needs must be accommodated
What we're looking for
- FoodSafe Level 1 certification, or willingness to obtain it before beginning work
- Experience cooking in a commercial, institutional, catering or similar kitchen environment
- Ability to safely prepare food in larger quantities and in a timely manner
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation and kitchen procedures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working respectfully with volunteers and people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of kitchen work, including standing for extended periods and safely lifting and carrying kitchen supplies
Preferred:
- Experience with catering, community meal programs or large-batch cooking
- Experience coordinating or supervising volunteers
- Experience with menu planning, food ordering and inventory
- Additional food-service or culinary training
Schedule
This is a part-time position of approximately 12–18 hours per week (Monday - Wednesday). The schedule will include regular daytime hours, with some flexibility required for occasional catered events or special functions.
