About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Mining Engineer to join our growing consulting team. This role offers the opportunity to lead technically challenging mining studies and advisory projects for clients across North America and internationally. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in mine planning, optimization, and economic evaluation while working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
This position is suited to an engineer with strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience preparing technical studies ranging from Scoping Studies through Feasibility Studies and supporting NI 43-101 and S-K 1300 technical reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical evaluation and design of open pit and underground mining projects.
- Coordinate with geology, geotechnical, hydrogeology, metallurgy, infrastructure, environmental, and processing teams to ensure engineering assumptions and design inputs are aligned.
- Pit optimization studies
- Underground mine designs
- Production scheduling
- Equipment selection
- Ventilation and mine infrastructure layouts (where applicable)
- Develop operating and capital cost estimates appropriate for Scoping, PEA, PFS, and Feasibility Study levels.
- Prepare cash flow models, economic analyses, cut-off grade evaluations, and mining trade-off studies.
- Prepare and review technical reports, memoranda, and engineering documentation for clients and public disclosure, including NI 43-101 and S-K 1300 reporting where applicable.
- Manage multiple consulting assignments, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to a high technical standard.
- Participate in client meetings, presentations, workshops, and site visits.
- Support business development activities, including proposal preparation, scope development, and client relationship management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for registration in Canada (or equivalent international designation).
- Typically 10+ years of mining engineering experience in consulting and/or mining operations.
- Strong understanding of open pit and/or underground mine planning principles.
- Experience with economic evaluations and mining studies at various project stages.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high-quality technical deliverables.
- Willingness to travel to mine sites as required.
Technical Skills
Experience with several of the following software packages is desirable:
- Datamine Studio NPVS (or equivalent optimization software)
- Datamine Studio OP
- Datamine Studio UG / MSO
- Deswik Suite
- Vulcan
- MineSight
- Microsoft Excel (advanced modelling)
Preferred Experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be considered an asset:
- NI 43-101, S-K 1300, or JORC compliant technical reporting
- Mineral Reserve estimation support
- Strategic mine planning
- Mine optimization and trade-off studies
- Underground mining methods (longhole stoping, cut-and-fill, room-and-pillar, caving)
- Open pit design and scheduling
- Mine economics and financial modelling
- Due diligence and technical audits
- Operational improvement and reconciliation studies
