Job Description
Park Lawn Preschool Inc. operates three non-profit child care centres located in the Park Lawn - Queensway area in Etobicoke. We are currently seeking a Registered Early Childhood Educator to join our Before and After School team.
Applicants must be available to work the following hours:
- Split Shift: 7:00 am - 9:30 am & 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm (5 - 5.5 hrs/day minimum)
- Full days: on all PA Days, March Break, Winter Break and possible Summer Programming.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Following an Emergent/Inquiry based curriculum model, and using documented observations of children to plan and implement age appropriate programs that stimulate and enriches children’s development for children ages 3.8 yrs – 10 years of age, using "How Does Learning Happen?" and ELECT documents
- Work in accordance with the policies and guidelines set out in the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014,Toronto Public Health, and Toronto Children’s Services Assessment for Quality Improvement.
- Support and maintain all aspects of children’s safety and well being.
- Document children's every day learning and experiences.
- Establish and maintains collaborative relationships with parents and families by utilizing a variety of communication tools (Lillio - formerly HiMama, daily conversations, newsletters, children’s daily charts, etc) while being sensitive to their culture and beliefs.
- May be responsible for guiding students and volunteers.
- Ensure records and documentation are accurate and up to date (attendances, cleaning schedules, accident reports, etc)
- Attend and participate in centre/organization staff meetings and workshops.
Qualifications and Skills
- RECE: Early Childhood Education Diploma or Degree & member in good standing with the College of ECE
- Experience working with Kindergarten or School Age children in a childcare setting
- Knowledge of CCEYA, 2014, Early Learning Framework, How Does Learning Happen? and Emergent/Inquiry-based program, an asset.
- Knowledge of the Toronto Children's Services Early Learning and Care Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI)
- Minimum of 1 year experience working with children in a child care setting.
- Experience with Lillio, an asset.
- Physically able to participate in program with children inside and outside the classroom.
- Sensitive and inclusive to the children and families’ needs.
- Able to work well within a team environment by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with children, parents, staff and program specialists.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing environments.
- Exhibit a genuine, nurturing, and caring attitude in the classroom.
- Excellent communication skills - verbal and written
- Well-developed problem-solving, conflict resolution skills and good judgement
- Self-directed with proven commitment to contribute to the team
- Up-to-date Health assessment, including immunizations
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR Level C Certificate
- Current Police Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

Hourly Rate Starting at: $25.73 /hour
Additional Benefits for Before and After School staff includes:
+ $2 Provincial Wage Enhancement (PWE) + $2 Premium Pay for Split Shift (this is on top of the hourly rate)
